This is volume 2 to my first Ace Attorney One Shots Book!
If you haven't read that book yet, you should go read it because certain chapters will not make sense if you don't!
Thank you!
Today, everyone was rushing. My mother had woken me up very earlier to prepare for something I dreaded going to: the match maker. When a girl turned 18, she would be sent to the matchmaker to find a wealthy husband. Finding a match on the first attempt was honorable to the family. I didn't want to disappoint my father, so I decided to just get it over with and accepted it.
My mother walked into the room with a few women behind her, "It's time to get ready." One of the women turned towards my mother, "This is what you give me to work with? Well, honey, I've seen worse. We're going to turn this sow's ear into a silk purse." I nodded and one of the women led me to the bathroom. I was bathed in various oils, salts, and scents. My hair was washed, combed, and dried. As the woman did that, she spoke to the one doing my hair and me, "We'll have you washed and dried. Primped and polished until you glow with pride. Trust my recipe for instant bride. You'll bring honor to us all."
Once out of the bath, they brought me back to my room. As they all prepared a makeup and hair table, they spoke to one another, "Wait and see. When we're through, boys will gladly go to war for you. With good fortune and a great hairdo, you'll bring honor to us all." I sighed as I thought to myself if all this was really worth it. One woman spoke to another, "A girl can bring her family great honor in one way. By striking a good match and this could be the day!" Two more women were holding clothes in their hands.

"Men want girls with good taste, calm, obedient, who work fast-paced, with good breeding, and a tiny waist. You'll bring honor to us all!" I stayed silent as they put the outfit on me, tightening it around the waist to make me smaller. As they made adjustments, they spoke to each other, "A man by bearing arms...A girl by bearing sons..." I bit my lip. Being a girl meant that to the men here, girls were for cooking, cleaning, and having children. Preferably boys. The men would be disappointed if their first born ended up being a girl.
Finally, my hair and make up was finished. The women seemed happy with their work, "When we're through, you can't fail. Like a lotus blossom: soft and pale. How could any fellow say "No Sale"? You'll bring honor to us all!" My mother looked at me, "There, you're ready. Wait...not yet. An apple for serenity, a pendant for balance. Beads of jade for beauty. You must proudly show it. Now add a cricket just for luck. And even you can't blow it!" Mother had lightly sprayed me with an apple scented perfume and put beads on my neck.
She also tucked a round cricket pendant into my dress, tied around the beads. We all left the house, walking through town towards the match maker. Families crowded the streets, watching their own daughters go to the match maker. I got into the back of the line of girls. I muttered to myself quietly, "Ancestors, hear my plea. Help me not to make a fool of me. And to not uproot my family tree. Keep my father standing tall." I could hear the girls in front of me talking.
"Scarier than the undertaker, we are meeting our matchmaker!" Families crowded around, talking to each other, "Destiny, guard our girls. And our future as it fast unfurls. Please look kindly on these cultured pearls. Each a perfect porcelain doll." Before I walked inside, I heard one last thing.
"Please bring honor to us all!"
Time Skip...a few hours later...
I walked out of the match maker, looking for my family. I spotted them a few yards away. I approached them, "Mother. Father." Mother rested a hand on my shoulder, "Did you find a match?" Father looked at me intently. I nodded, "Yes. I did. His name is Miles Edgeworth." Mother smiled, "You have done well! He comes from one of the best families." Mother laughed happily, "I'll send a letter inviting them to dinner. You can show them your wonderful cooking skills."
I bit my lip, "Of course." After that, we headed home. I got out of the stuffy dress and took off the heavy make up. I changed into a more casual dress and pinned my hair back. I stepped into the hallway, almost bumping into my father, "Sorry father." He gently patted my head, "It's alright. You should hurry though. Your future husband will be arriving soon." I smiled, "Ok." He gently squeezed my shoulders, "I am so proud of you."
After that, I hurried to the kitchen where my mother was waiting. She turned to me, "They will be here in a few hours. We have to hurry." I got to work making some finger foods like lumpia and such. My mother watched them as they fried so that I could start on the main dinner dish.
Long rice and chicken and vegetables.
(Filipino food is the best! Except when you're part Filipino and can't cook the food at all...)
I finished the food just in time. I put plates on the table and placed the food in the center of the table. I put down the silverware before my mother ushered me out of the kitchen. She spoke, "He's here!" In front of the table stood my father and a man in a red suit with silver hair. Father spoke, "This is (Y/n), my daughter and your match." He continued, "And (Y/n), this is Miles Edgeworth, your match." I approached Miles, "It's nice to meet you Miles." Miles spoke, "Likewise."
I swallowed the lump in my throat, "Dinner is ready if you'd like to eat." He nodded, "I'd be obliged." The two of them sat down and my mother and I served them before serving ourselves. Dinner was quiet with a few conversations here and there. Afterwards, I walked Miles to the door, "It was an honor to have you here. Please, send our regards to your family." He tensed slightly before calming, "Of course. But I'd like to see you outside your home if you'd be interested?" I smiled, "I'd love to."
He stepped outside, "I'll send a letter with the date we can see each other. Goodnight." I quickly kissed his cheek, "Good night Miles." I closed the door and put my back to it, blushing.
