Jealousy And Loss (Apollo x Reader)

A/N: First Dual Destinies one shot! I am barely on the second case, so please forgive me if I get something wrong. Also, don't spoil anything!!!

I sat with Apollo in the court lobby after Athena and Mr. Wright headed into the courtroom. One of Apollo's wounds had reopened a little. The smell of his blood slightly nauseated me. I rubbed at the bandages around my neck. I had been watching Apollo's trial when the bomb went off. As I escaped the courtroom, I tried to help Juniper, one of my best friends. Apollo tried to shield both of us, but some rubble hit my neck.

I could tell the bandages on me were irritating Apollo. It kind of damaged his pride a bit when he found out that I was injured. Not being able to protect your mate is a pride sensitive thing. His mark on me was also covered up, so it made him stress about other guys. I held his hand, "Don't stress yourself. Just relax." He looked at me, "I know, but..." I shook my head, "No buts. Let's just hope Mr. Wright can pull through this trial."

I rested my head on Apollo's shoulder and fell asleep.

I woke up few hours later. Mr. Wright and Athena were coming out of the courtroom. Apollo was gone. We all spoke about the trial before Mr. Wright brought Apollo up, "Where is Apollo anyways?" Juniper spoke up, "He went to go look for Rhiny in courtroom #4." Juniper made me feel jealous. Hearing her fawn over Apollo made me so jealous, but she was my friend. I whimpered loudly as a painful sensation filled the side of my head. Athena steadied me, "(Y/n), what's wrong?!" I bit my lip.

"I don't know. But, I need to find Apollo." We all walked to the destroyed courtroom. Mr. Wright opened the door, "Apollo?" Athena bounded in, "Apollo! Where are y-!" She stopped dead in her tracks. I followed her gaze to see Apollo crumpled on the floor. A bloody piece of debris laid next to him. Tears rolled down my face and I collapsed to my knees as a scream tore from my throat. I barely registered Athena screaming next to me as my vision faded in and out before fading out completely.

I woke up the next day at the hospital. Apollo was sitting in the chair next to my hospital bed. I spoke, "A-Apollo..." He quickly turned to me, "(Y/n)! You're awake!" I gripped his hand, "What happened to me?" He sighed, "When you passed out, you twisted your ankle and hit your head. But, you're alright now. I'll go sign your release forms, ok?" I nodded, "Ok." He kissed my forehead before leaving the room. 30 minutes later, we were heading back to the office.

I had to wear an ankle brace for a week, so Apollo was helping me along. Once we got to the office, I sat on the sofa. Apollo turned to Mr. Wright, "Sorry, but I'll be taking a leave of absence." My eyes widened. Athena spoke, "Wait! What do you mean by a leave?!" Mr. Wright looked at him, "Can you at least give me a reason why?" Apollo glanced at me before looking away, "I can only say, that this is something I must settle on my own." He walked towards the door. I limped to him, "Apollo. Wait. What about us? I love you."

He looked at me, "Just wait for me
(Y/n). I love you." Then, he was gone. I collapsed onto the sofa. On the inside, my wolf my crying out for our other half. On the outside, a tear ran down my cheek. More wanted to follow, but I kept them in.

The pain of being separated from one's mate hurts more than anything in the world. The link shared for sensing the other's pain and emotions is broken. But that's only half of the pain. The other half is from not knowing if they are alright.

The mark they give stays, but mates are bonded forever.

And sometimes the pain and depression becomes too much. This often leads to one of them...

Taking their own life.  

I looked at everyone. They looked back sadly. They couldn't possibly understand.

At least I still had them though...
