I got up out of bed, feeling the puffiness of my eyes from the pain behind them. I looked at my calendar, the date making my eyes sting once again. I opened the closet, pulling out my outfit for the day. I did my make up and then got dressed.

(No clutch)

I walked to the kitchen. I slightly smiled when I saw Mai perched on the counter. I petted her side, "Good morning Mai." She tilted her head at me before picking something up in her beak. I looked at it. It was the reminder I made for today. I sighed, "I know girl. You miss Taka huh?" She let out a soft call. I shrugged on a jacket, "Let's go, Mai." She perched on my shoulder and we left the house.

A few minutes later, we pulled up to the detention center. I headed inside, the guards already knowing who I was here for. I worked in the animal program for rehabilitating prisoners. That's how we met those years ago. I entered the visitation room. He was waiting alone. I had heard that Aura had visited him, but he refused to speak with her at all. I sat down in the chair. Mai moved onto the counter. Taka did the same. I spoke.

"Did you sleep well Simon?" He looked at me, "Insomnia never leaves, but you've been crying. Haven't you?" I looked down, "I... hardly slept last night-! No, the whole week. They're going to execute you and there's nothing I can do to stop it!" He shook his head, "I've chosen to walk this path, love. Just as you've chosen to be with me these past seven years."

I bit my lip, "But now, that path is ending and I can't walk on without you! You saved me, but I can't even do the same!" His fists started to shake very slightly, "There's nothing anyone can do now. But the day I saved you, I couldn't just stand by." I paused.

He was right.

The day he saved me...

I was going to kill myself.

I had came to the prison for work that day. I checked in with all of the prisoners before I headed outside to go through with my plan. I sat under a nearby tree, closed my eyes, and took a few deep breaths. I opened my bag and took out my blade.

I looked around, making sure no one was around. Suddenly, I heard a small cry in front of me. I looked in front of me to see a hawk chick. It was Taka, a hawk chick I entrusted to Simon Blackquill. I put my blade down before scooping Taka up in my hands, "Where's Simon, Taka?" Then, a sharp whistle filled the air. Taka let out a low shriek. I heard footsteps come closer. I looked up to see Simon.

I spoke, "Did you lose Taka?" He nodded, "He's still learning commands. He often wanders." I handed Taka over to him, "Well, here. You should go back inside." I pushed the blade behind me, accidentally cutting myself. I winced. He took notice, "Are you alright?" I nodded, "Yes, yes. I'm fine." He looked at Taka perched on his shoulder. He whistled. Taka flew off his shoulder and behind me. Before I could grip the blade, Taka grabbed hold of it.

He flew back to Simon, dropping the blade in his hand. Simon looked at me, "This blade... there's blood on it. Were you harming yourself?" I shook my head, "No Simon. Now go." He didn't move, "Don't take your life here. Not when you have many more lives to touch." He tossed the blade into the nearby pond. I spoke, "Thank you, Simon. I'll be going home now."

He spoke, "Seeing you here now, I realize I have made the right choice. You are a beautiful young woman, a bright light in the ever present darkness." He looked at my hair, "That hairband...you know it's my favorite. But I can tell you're already mourning..." I tried to smile, "I have made the right choice as well. You've grown so much in the seven years we've had. Now I see a strong man who wants to save those he loves, even if the consequences are harsh."

A tear rolled down my cheek, "And for that, I love you, Simon Blackquill. I will never regret that." He smiled a rare smile, "And I you, (Y/n) (L/n). Hundreds of thousands of years for now that fact will not have changed." I swallowed the lump in my throat, "I will retrieve Taka tomorrow." I picked up Mai, "Goodbye Simon..." Then, I rushed out. I went home and cried until I nearly passed out.

The next day, I could barely sit up in bed. Then, I heard the doorbell ring. I wiped my eyes and went to answer the door. Aura was standing there, "You need to come with me to the courthouse. Right now." I sighed, "Why? To watch him die and know there's nothing I can do to stop it?!" She shook her head, "No. Come on." I was still in my clothes from yesterday so I was already dressed. I whistled for Mai. She came and perched on my shoulder on my jacket.

(Let's pretend that Aura arrived after the trial completely ended!)

"Let's go then." We hurried to the courthouse and got inside. She led me to the outside of courtroom #4. I saw the three lawyers, the chief prosecutor, and...Simon. Aura went to speak with the lawyers. Suddenly, Mai rocketed off my shoulder and towards Taka, perched on Simon's shoulder. They tumbled towards the ground, but flew before they hit. I smiled, happy tears rolling down my face.

"Simon!" I rushed towards him, embracing him tightly. He slightly stumbled but regained his balance. I pulled back, "H-How...? I thought..." He looked towards the attorneys, "They've proven my innocence along with Athena's." I looked at his hands holding me. The shackles were gone. I held his hands, rubbing my thumbs over his wrists. I looked towards the attorneys, "Thank you. Thank you so much." I turned back towards Simon.

He wiped away my tears, "Don't cry love." I leaned up, pressing my lips to his. He tensed before relaxing. I felt his hand stop on the back of my neck, pulling me closer. Mr. Wright spoke, making me pull away, "Children in the room!" He had put a hand over his daughter's eyes, while Mr. Justice had his over Athena's. The two girls only giggled. I looked at Simon, "Let's go home, Simon." He nodded, "Yes. Let's."

I whistled for Mai as Simon whistled for Taka. They came to us and we left the courthouse.

The next day, Simon led me to the grassy field behind the space center. It was calm and peaceful. The wind blew Simon's hair around, reminding me of just how long it had gotten in seven years. I leaned my head on his shoulder. He held me close. A few minutes later, a low rumble filled the air. Then, a rocket launched into the sky. The way Simon watched it, I felt hope re-entering his heart. I spoke.

"I love you Simon."

He looked at me.

"I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there's a life after that, I'll love you then."
