A Black Butler Rant

Ok, so I recently rewatched a little bit of Black Butler. I rewatched all 24 of season one's episodes and all 12 of season two's.

Now, I haven't watched any of season two's OVAs or Book Of Circus yet, so no spoilers!

Anyways, Black Butler was one of the first animes that I had watched back in 2015-ish. Season one was just fine. I loved the bits of comedic relief sprinkled in, along with the characters. Every character was good and had good qualities.

**Keep in mind, I have not read the manga**

However, watching season two, kind of put a damper on my mood.

For one, I felt like a lot of the plot was just thrown together in an attempt to keep everyone guessing. It just got boring after a while. The characters were ok, but like the plot, they were just thrown about.

Alois, for example. I loved him completely. Yes, he's bipolar and a little crazy, but he just wanted to be loved. If I'm being honest, Alois was the only relatable character in season two, at all.

Change my mind.

Claude, for lack of better words, was a shody attempt at a Sebastian Michaelis knock off that no body really liked. He was a little creepy with the whole licking Ciel's blood and all that.

Hannah was more of a background character that I never thought twice about. She was pretty and had pretty hair, but that was it for me.

The triplets felt messily put together and provided very little to the actual plot.

Ciel's torture scenes made me cringe. And you know, you'd think that out of all people, law enforcement would know who Ciel Phantomhive is! Like really?

Oh, and Alois' backstory made me very sad. I swear, the whole time I wanted to curse out that nasty old man! But, Alois did what he had to, so that he would survive. So I can't blame him for ending up like he did.

I could also do without the whole 'Ciel becoming a demon' plotline. It's not a surprise that they would choose that ending. It's just unoriginal. They could've easily been like 'Oh, those red eyes and all that? Nope! Just a fever induced dream from Ciel getting dunked in the ocean! He's still human!'

And the cliche 'Oh, since he's a demon, he can't stick around. Let's let everyone know that he's dead after he leaves the city. Brilliant!' It did not work out well.

Season two was not my cup of tea.

I swear, Sebastian punches a tree in and Claude goes "Oh, it's just a cat." Ciel should've been like, "Excuse me? What kind of cat is that loud?"

And I couldn't be the only one who got super confused when the whole thing with Ciel losing his memories came up. It made no sense.

This is why I'm mostly glad that season two is not canon!

Thanks for listening to my rant!
