Friends Forever (Friend! Adrian x Reader)

A/N: No romance in this one. Just good friendship.

I walked over to the stand's speaker, getting ready to play the song Adrian and I made. Adrian nodded to me and I started the song and smiled at her.

"Adrian and (Y/n) were the best of friends all through their high school days. Both members of the 4H Club. Both active in the FFA."

We both smiled at the fond memories. We joined the same clubs, had the same interests, and just clicked. But then, high school came to an end.

"After graduation Adrian went out
lookin' for a bright new world. (Y/n) looked all around this town and all she found was Matt."

I internally cringed at his name. After high school, Adrian left to pursue her own career. I stayed in our little town, looking for love. That's when I found Matt. He was charming. He knew exactly what to say and do. Maybe that's why my parents were so thrilled when we told them we were getting married. The wedding went off without a hitch. Then, those lovely honeymoon feelings disappeared.

"Well, it wasn't two weeks after she got married that (Y/n) started gettin' abused. She put on dark glasses and long sleeved blouses. And make-up to cover her bruise."

Matt changed. He went from loving to cruel, warm to cold. He wasn't who I thought he was. One day, he just got angry and hit me. After that, it became a reoccurring event. Clean, cook dinner, wash dishes, get hit, go to bed, and repeat. But, after a while, I had snapped and decided I was done."

"Well, she finally got the nerve to file for divorce. She let the law take it from there. But Matt walked right through that restraining order. And put her in intensive care."

Adrian froze up for a moment, probably remembering that night at the hospital. I remembered all of it too clearly for my liking.

I had moved to my mother's for a while. Everyone was out when Matt came to the house. I stupidly opened the door for him. He ended up giving me a black eye, broken nose, busted lip, fractured wrist, and sprained ankle before one of the neighbors pulled him off me. I was then taken to the nearby hospital.

"Right away Adrian flew in from California. On a red eye midnight flight. She held (Y/n)'s hand and they worked out a plan. And it didn't take them long to decide: That Matt had to die!"

We came up with a plan to kill Matt. I went back to him a week after I left the hospital. I cooked dinner for the two of us, well aware that Adrian was hiding outside the kitchen door.

"Goodbye, Matt! Those black-eyed peas? They tasted all right to me, Matt!
You're feeling weak? Why don't you lay down and sleep, Matt! Ain't it dark?Wrapped up in that tarp, Matt?"

Adrian smiled at me. I grinned back. I remember wrapping him up in that tarp. I did it all with a smile. The next day, the cops came looking for him, but he couldn't be found. Just the way we planned it.

"The cops came by to bring Matt in. They searched the house high and low. Then they tipped their hats and said "Thank You, ladies, if you hear from him let us know". Well, the weeks went by and spring turned to summer. And summer faded into fall. And it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all."

Nobody missed him. Nobody looked for him. Nobody cared.

But Adrian and I got away from that musty, old house. We bought some land and a stand to sell our wares.

"So the girls bought some land and a roadside stand out on Highway 109. They sell Tennessee ham and strawberry jam. And they don't lose any sleep at night. 'Cause Matt had to die! Goodbye Matt! We need a break!"

Adrian and I winked at each other.

"Let's go out to the lake, Matt! We'll pack a lunch. And stuff you in the trunk, Matt! Well, is that all right!Good! Let's go for a ride, Matt! Hey! Well, hey hey hey! Ah, hey hey hey! Well, hey hey hey~"

The song ended and the people around the stand cheered. I joined Adrian behind the stand, helping her take orders. After the last customer left, I turned to Adrian, "Thank you for being there for me and being a friend. I don't know what I would've done without you." She hugged me, "Don't thank me. You're my best friend. I couldn't just let you suffer. I'll always be there. Even if it means killing someone." I smiled.

"We're best friends forever."
