Fleeting (Simon Blackquill x Reader)

A/N: Ok, this has nothing to do with the chapter, but I need to ask. Have you ever been reading a book and an unexpected lemon or smut comes up and they add warnings for one kink or another that you don't really like, but you read it anyways? And then, while you're reading it, you feel weird about it and want to stop, but you read until the end. Just me?

Your Pov:

I sat in our shared room, contemplating my decision. All of my stuff was packed away in my suitcase and I had a note prepared. I stood, my mind made up. I took off the necklace he gave me and taped it to the letter. I set the letter on the bed, grabbed my stuff, and left the house. I got in the car and headed to a specific place.

No one's Pov:

Simon arrived home a few hours later. Taka flew from his shoulder to the bedroom as he always did. However, there was no laughter from (Y/n) as usual. He was confused. She would usually laugh at Taka's greeting. He walked down the hall and into the bedroom, only to find the right side of it empty. Taka perched on the bed, staring at something intensely. Simon picked it up, noting that it was a letter. He opened it.

(Y/n)'s necklace fell into his hand.

He began to read the note.

My dearest Simon,

Writing this letter seems to be the most heart-breaking thing I have ever had to do. This moment is one I had never thought would come. So, imagine my surprise.

We not only love each other, but we have a partnership unlike any I’ve experienced. We have endured and experienced many incredible things and I have so much respect for you and everything you are. Honestly, when I think of moving on without you, I can’t picture it yet.

I just know for both our sakes, I must.

Passion, like respect, is a vital part of a relationship. Our companion-like love is not going to sustain us.

I am truly sorry for making this seem like a selfish decision. Please remember, I once sparked a passion in you, that has long since dimmed, too. This is for both of us.

Love, (Y/n)

He crumpled the letter, tossing it back on the bed. He turned on his phone and pulled up her contact. He called her several times, each one going to voicemail. He texted her, but received no answers. Hearing her voice playing through that voicemail was the straw that broke the camel's back.

He collapsed to his knees, holding her necklace, and cried out in anger and sadness.

The world had truly taken everything from him now...

To (Y/n):

I sat in the spare room of the Wright Anything Agency. Phoenix let me stay and promised he wouldn't tell Simon where I was. Leaving Simon was something I never dreamed of doing. But it wasn't my choice.

I never told Simon, but I came from a very wealthy family. My parents had decided that Simon was not good for their image and told me that they wanted to unite their company with another one...through marriage.

(You're 18 in this one btw.)

I had no choice but to go along with it. They have connections in the legal world and threatened to have Simon's badge revoked if I didn't go through with the marriage.

I was knocked out of my thoughts by the office door opening. I quickly locked my door and tried to listen in. I nearly froze at the voice, "Wright-dono, is (Y/n) here? I must see her." Phoenix spoke, "I-I'm sorry Prosecutor Blackquill, but she's not here." I wanted so badly to open the door and run into his arms, but I held back. Simon's voice had cracked in the middle of his words, though his tone was strong. He was hurt.

Simon sighed, "Then I'll take my search elsewhere." Then, he was gone. After that, I headed to my parents, thanking Phoenix for letting me stay for a while. My mother immediately dragged me to the dress shop. In a matter of minutes, I was already being shoved into a dress, heels, and a veil. After they finished, they brought me to the showing area.

I looked in the mirror at myself.

The dress itself was beautiful, but I couldn't keep looking at myself knowing that Simon wouldn't be the one to see me in it at the altar

We'll buy the whole set." After that, we headed back. I went up to my room, just about ready to cry. I noticed a small box on my dresser. There was a note on it. I read it.

For my bride to be~

I opened the box and nearly dropped it in shock.

I sighed and set it back down. I laid down on the bed and closed my eyes. Suddenly, I heard a tapping on my window. I sat up. The tapping continued. I opened the curtains to see...Taka. I opened the window. Taka flew in and perched on the bedpost. I looked below the window to see Simon.

(Room is on the second floor.)

I watched as he climbed up the ivy gratings. He slipped into my room, "(Y/n)..." I spoke, "Simon." He approached me, "You left me with nothing but a letter. Care to explain?" I bit my lip, "I-I can't." He frowned, "Is this about the wedding I heard of from your servants?" I looked at him, "I don't have a choice, Simon." He crossed his arms, "Tell me (Y/n). Why?" I looked away, "They'll take your prosecutor's badge! I refuse to ruin your life!" He shook his head.

"They can take it for all I care. I don't need it to prove how much I love you." I bowed my head, "You should go Simon." Before he could speak, I heard my door opened. Then, I heard my mother, "You! What are you doing here?!" My father spoke after, "I want him out of my house!" Simon spoke.

"No."

He continued, "You may be able to take my job, but know this, you can take my badge, you can take my possessions, you can even take my life, but you can never take away my love for your daughter." Mother grabbed my arm, "Do you really love someone like him?! You'd choose him over us?!" I snapped, "If you keep treating me like property you can sell, then yes! I love him and there isn't a thing you can do about it!"

My mother huffed, "Then you can get out of my house! And when he leaves you, don't come crawling back to me!" I grabbed my suitcases, "Fine." As Simon and I walked out, my father spoke, "You'll be back! You're on your own!" Then, we left. When we were outside, Simon turned to me, "May I?" He held out my necklace. I turned and he put it back on me.

I smiled at him, "I love you, Simon."

He gripped my hand, "I love you (Y/n). You are the ever favorite object of my heart."
