Forever Loved (Ema Skye x Reader)

A/N: This is girl x girl, so if that makes you uncomfortable, please skip this chapter. Post Apollo Justice!

Your Pov:

I stood in the empty house, no noise besides my shallow breaths. Ema was at work, working yet another long shift. She hadn't been the same since it all happened.

I slowly walked upstairs, stopping in front of one of the doors. I rested my hand on the knob, hesitating before turning it and opening the door. I swallowed the lump in my throat as my eyes glanced along the walls and furniture. I hadn't been in here for quite some time, so dust had begun to collect all over the place.

'How long has it been? A day? A month? A year?'

I was startled out of my thoughts by a knock coming from the front door. I quickly exited the room and shut the door before heading downstairs to answer the front door. I twisted the knob and opened the door.

"Hello...? Oh."

I tried to force a smile as I looked at Apollo. "Apollo...Come in." The two of us went to the living room and took a seat. He looked at me. "How are you doing? Ema's...going nuts at the precinct. She's ran the investigation dry." I sighed. "It's her distraction, Apollo. She just needs time." He rested a hand on my shoulder. "But what about you? You were the one who was-"

I cut him off. "I'll be alright. Don't worry about me. I can't go back to work until my leave ends." He nodded. "I see. If you or Ema ever need anything, please call me." I smiled. "I will." With that, Apollo saw himself out. Once he was gone, I turned on the TV and turned it to a random channel.

The sound was tuned out as I got lost in my thoughts, reflecting on what had happened.

I sat at my desk at the precinct, going over the various reports and files. As I added another to the ever growing stack, a hand touched my shoulder.

"Don't overexert yourself now. You know what the doctor said."

I turned to them. "I know, Ema. The doctor said I can't have caffeine either. This is a nightmare." She smiled. "Well, once it's over, you can have as much coffee as you want. You'll probably need it." I huffed. "It still sucks." She jokingly shook her head. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Oh, I have to drop by the detention center to grab the defendant for questioning. Just drop that report when you can."

I nodded. "I will." Once she was gone, I continued my work. After 30 minutes, I finished the report Ema needed and made my way to the detention center. As I approached the doors, I could see Ema, Gumshoe, and a guard trying to detain the defendant. They were struggling to keep a grip on the man as he fought.

I opened the doors and in that moment, the man escaped their grips. He ran towards the open doors, unconcerned for anyone in his way. The man harshly shoved me aside and  I hit the wall before collapsing to the ground. My hands immediately went to my stomach.

My 7 month pregnant stomach.

Ema kneeled down next to me, concern in her eyes. "(Y/n)! Are you alright?!" As I looked up at her, a pang of pain shot through my body. I cried out in pain, gripping onto her arm. Immediately after that, I felt liquid soak the floor under me. Ema pulled her phone out of her pocket. "I'm calling an ambulance now. Just hold on for a little longer..."

Gumshoe and the guard had detained the defendant and put him in cuffs before shoving him into a cop car. Shortly after, the ambulance pulled into the lot. I whined in pain as the paramedics lifted me onto the stretcher and put me into the ambulance.

Once at the hospital and in a room, a doctor arrived with some news.

I was giving birth early because of the shock my body endured.

Ema arrived 10 minutes later and stayed in the room with me as the procedure began.

"Everything will be alright, (Y/n). Our baby is almost here. Just a little more..."

And so, the next 9 hours were spent in  labor and in pain. Then, the unthinkable happened.

I gave the finally push and felt the baby leave my body. But no cries filled the room. Ema looked over at the doctor. "Is everything alright?" The doctor looked at the two of us, their face dark.

TW for miscarriage!

"Your child was stillborn. I'm sorry..."

The nurse rested the bundle in my arms. "It was a girl..."

They left the room to give us some space. I clutched my baby to my chest, sobs and screams ripping from my throat. Ema sat next to me in silence, tears running down her cheeks. I murmured to myself.

"I'm sorry...I'm so sorry..."

(Back in the present)

I stood from my spot and went back upstairs. I took a deep breath and entered the room.

Lavender paint covered the walls in a neat layer as a crib sat pressed against the wall under the window. Above the crib was a rotating mobile that depicted the solar system and the stars. A rocking chair sat in the corner, a small stuffed bear sitting on the seat. A dresser full of baby clothes and a changing table replete with diapers and the like sat off to the side.

Ema and I rarely came in here. The wounds always reopened when we saw this room. It was both a safe haven and a lost dream.

I collapsed to my knees in the center of the room, but I didn't cry. I buried my face in my hands, trying to remember all the happy memories. Then, I felt arms wrapped around me. I looked up to see Ema on the floor with me. She hugged me, burying her face in my shoulder. She looked at me. "I knew you'd be here."

She continued. "It's alright, (Y/n). Everything is alright now." I felt my eyes get teary at her words. She started to rub my back.

"None of this was your fault. You tried your absolute hardest for her. I think...I think it's time for us to move on."

I looked at her. "Yes...I think so too. Maybe, in the future, we can use this room again."

She smiled. "Then why don't we get some coffee in your system and get you back to work?" I nodded. "I'd love that, Ema. I missed that place."

And with that, the two of us stood and walked out of the room. I stopped in the doorway and looked back one last time.

"We'll be back soon...Lana..."
