Dear (Miles Edgeworth x Reader)
No One's Pov:
A silver haired man paced outside a hospital room. From inside the room came the noise of an erratic heart monitor and a woman's screams. Hours went by like this, making the man more nervous. By now, some close friends had gotten word of the situation and came to the hospital.
They tried to reassure him, but he ignored them, only hearing the beeping and screams.
He wanted her to be ok.
He needed her to be ok.
A few hours later, the door opened and a nurse came out, "Mr. Edgeworth? Your wife wishes to see you." He nodded and rushed into the room. On the bed, laid a (h/c) haired woman. Sweat lined her forehead and blood stained the bottom half of the blanket. She looked at him.
To Your Pov:
I smiled weakly as Miles sat next me and held my hand. I spoke, "I love you. Our...our baby too." I felt liquid seeping into the blanket by my thighs, "My time is running...out. But I want you to be s-strong." He shook his head, "(Y/n), you can't leave me. Not like everyone else. You are my happiness." He yelled for a doctor.
I heard voices outside the door. I could smell the iron in the air. I shakily spoke, "Miles, life will go on. You know that. Don't cling to the past. Please." He kissed my forehead, "I'll try. For you." I smiled and closed my eyes, "Good. I love...you..."
I could hear my heart monitor slowing as the door opened. I opened my eyes. My vision was blurry as doctors swarmed around me. Then, everything went black.
Back to No One's Pov:
An hour later, the doctor exited the room. He looked at the silver haired man, "I'm sorry. There's nothing more we could've done." In that moment, a baby's cry broke the silence. Miles walked into the now empty hospital room. Next to the bed was a smaller cot. Inside, laid a baby wrapped in a blue blanket. He picked up the crying baby, tears welling in his eyes.
The door closed. He started to hum for his baby boy. He then started to sing slightly, "Dear Gregory, how to say to you...Sometime this night, your mother breathed your name. And like a flame that flickers out too soon, she died...She's gone...!"
A sob escaped his throat, but he tried to regain his composure. He slightly smiled down at the cooing baby, "She dedicated every day to you. She changed my life, she made my life worthwhile. And when you smile, I know a part of her lives on. I know I can go on..."
2 years later...
Miles followed the little toddler on the winding path, through the grass. At the end, Gregory plopped down on a soft patch of grass.
"Hi mama! I love you!"
Miles sat down behind him, watching as he excitedly chattered on. Gregory paused and turned to him, hugging him, "I miss mama..." Miles sighed, "I know. I miss her too." He hummed and sang the lullaby Gregory loved.
"You have come of age with our young nation. We bleed and fight for you. Sometimes it seems that's all we do. And you and I will build a strong foundation. And I'll be here for you. The way is clear for you to blow us all away..."
Gregory closed his eyes, slowly falling asleep. Miles smiled, and covered him with his coat as he rested in the grass.
"Someday, someday, yeah you'll blow us all away..."
He approached and gently placed down a bouquet of flowers in front of the gravestone. He sighed, "My dear, I miss you. I have thought about you everyday since...but I can't let go. If I let go of the pain and grief, the man I have made myself out to be...would cease to exist. So I'm going to keep moving forward. For you. For Gregory. He deserves a father."
A tear ran down his cheek, "I just hope to see you again. I love you."
He picked up Gregory and started to walk back. The wind whistled through the trees, ruffling their hair. And in that moment, he heard her voice singing the lullaby.
"Someday, someday..."
