I awoke to the sound of one of Nahyuta's meditation mantras. He was already dressed and seemed to be preparing for the day. I got up and got dressed, reluctantly slipping the fingerless glove onto my right hand. I looked at my calendar, pausing when I realized the date. I had to redo my protection spell for Nahyuta, Rayfa, and my father. Nahyuta looked at me, "Is there something wrong?"

I shook my head, "No. Not at all. But you're going to be late for your mantra teachings if you don't hurry." He stood, "I suppose you're right. I will see you later." Then, he left. I waited until his footsteps faded and then I got to work. I cleaned out the incense burner and added some new incense to it before letting it burn. I opened my nightstand drawer and pulled out a white candle along with the photos of Nahyuta, Rayfa, and our father. I lit the candle with the heat from the burner and began the spell.

I closed my eyes and recited the spell, starting with father first. Father's was for protection from Ga'ran, her royal guards, and Justice Minister Inga. After reciting the spell a few more times, I put father's photo away. Then, I started on Rayfa's. Her's was for protection against the people, their lies, and Ga'ran. By now, the spell had gone on for a few good hours. As it took time to make sure it was perfect.

I finally came to Nahyuta's picture. He needed the protection the most. He was also suffering the most with no way of being saved. I took a deep breath and began to recite the spell again, "O Goddess, protect my loved ones everyday, as they sleep and as they play. Help them to always smile bright, and keep them safe in your loving light. Protect them from harm and from all they fear, for they are the ones that I hold dear. I thank the Goddess-!" A voice interrupted me.

"What are you doing?!" My eyes snapped open to see Nahyuta standing in the doorway. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him, "I asked you a question. And as your older brother, I want you to answer me." I quickly blew out the candle and put it on the ground, "It is as you see it. I am not a devout follower of the Holy Mother, but a Wiccan." He stared at me, then he spoke, "Why? Who has swayed you to this devilry?!"

I stood from my position on the floor, "I have chosen this path on my own. I will not be swayed by the Queen's will of sin to adopt her ideals. Not like you Nahyuta." I walked towards the door, "If you're going to rat me out to Ga'ran, don't bother. I'll be gone by then." Nahyuta spoke, "Don't...don't leave. I won't let her take you too."

I sighed, "I'm going to go for a walk. Don't wait up Nahyuta." Then, I left the room. I walked around the courtyard, getting my thoughts together. Nahyuta was my brother and I loved him, but he now knows about the secret I kept from him.

As night fell in the courtyard, I headed back to our room. Inside, Nahyuta sat on his bed, meditating. I got ready for bed. I moved over to the window sill and grabbed the jar of water sitting there. Nahyuta stopped his meditating, "You came back. What are you doing now?" I looked at him, "Since you already know about my secret, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. I'm making more Moon Water Tonic." I placed the jar down.

I grabbed an empty jar and filled it with plain water before dropping my quartz crystal in. I sealed the jar and placed it on the windowsill in the moonlight. Nahyuta spoke up, "What does this tonic do?" I smiled, "The water is filled with lunar potency and helps prepare the body, mind and spirit for the stress of the day." I looked at him, "Would you like to try some tomorrow?" He hesitated, "I...I'd like that. I may not practice your religion, but I can try to understand."

I nodded, "Then can I finish my protection spell? You interrupted me before I could finish yours." He smiled, "Yes. Go ahead." I opened my drawer and pulled out Nahyuta's photo. I started the incense burner and lit the candle. Nahyuta watched me intensely. I kneeled in front of the picture and began the spell.

"O Goddess, protect my loved ones everyday, as they sleep and as they play. Help them to always smile bright, and keep them safe in your loving light. Protect them from harm and from all they fear, for they are the ones that I hold dear. I thank the Goddess for helping me. I trust in her aid, so mote it be."

I opened my eyes and blew out the candle, whispering Nahyuta's name as I did so. I looked at him, "There. It is done. I do this spell once a month for you, Rayfa, and...father." Nahyuta nodded, "Like I said, I may not practice your religion, but I can try to understand. It's good to know that someone is protecting Dhurke." I put the candle away and stopped the incense burner, "Let's get to bed. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow." We got into our beds and I blew out the candle on the nightstand.

"Good night Nahyuta."
