Provincial Life (Various x Reader)
No One's Pov:
In a small village far away, something amazing happened. A large group of men stood outside a home. Inside, a woman was giving birth to a baby. With the village's limited resources, the gender would be a surprise. But the men hoped for a girl. The village itself was only men. They would find women outside the village and bring them back. However, after the woman fell pregnant and delivered, she would pass from complications.
All of the women thus far had given birth only to boys. So they hoped for a girl. A cry broke the silence of the night. The woman's husband stepped outside, a bundle of blankets in his arms. He spoke, "Unfortunately, (m/n) has passed, but she has left us with a great gift." He smiled, "A beautiful baby girl! And her name will be (Y/n)." All the men cheered. Those with sons a year or two older than the newborn knew that they had to prepare them for the future.

Your Pov:
Today was my birthday. I was turning 20. Like every year before this, everyone in the village had planned a party and gifts were piled high on my doorstep. Downstairs in the kitchen, my father was talking with some of the other men in the village. I never really liked celebrating my birthday because it was also a day of guys trying to win my affections. They chased after me relentlessly. They tried to win my love with expensive jewelry, luxury clothes, etc.
I always rejected them as I knew their true intentions. I was the only opportunity to carry on their legacy. After I turned 18, women stopped being brought to the village. That's when my father tried to get me to pick someone to marry. I refused. I didn't want to marry someone only to have a baby and die like my mother. I wanted to live my life to the fullest.
I walked downstairs and greeted my father before leaving the house. As I walked down the sidewalk, I was stopped by the most egotistical man in town: Kristoph Gavin. He spoke, "Happy birthday (Y/n). You look absolutely gorgeous today. Have you thought about my proposal?" I scoffed, "No. I will not marry you." I walked around him and into the nearby woods. I muttered to myself.
"Can you imagine? He asked me to marry him! Me! The wife of that boorish, brainless...!" I rolled my eyes, "Madame Gavin, can't you just see it?
Madame Gavin, his little wife! No sir, not me, I guarantee it. I want much more than this provincial life!" The treeline ended at a field of wildflowers. I walked into the field, spinning around before falling into the flowers, "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere. I want it more than I can tell." I looked up to see Phoenix collecting firewood.I smiled, "And for once it might be grand, to have someone understand. I want so much more than they've got planned..." I plucked some flowers and started weaving flower crowns. The only one who actually got to know me was Phoenix. He cared about my feelings and what I had to say. He actually listened to me.
If I had to choose, it would be him...
