A/N: The reader is half fox which means she has the ability to shift into a fox when she wants to but her ears and tail stay out in her human form.

Your Pov:

I stood in my room as my so called 'mother' rushed around me. My real parents died when I was young and I was adopted by a couple who had no children. I thought my life was going to get better, but I was wrong. They didn't know about my ears or tail until they accidentally saw them. After that, they forced me to always cover them up. They were dependent on their reputation. They were so convinced that something like this would ruin them if it ever got out.

I was taught how to cook, clean, and take care of children. I had recently turned 21, an age my mother decided was old enough to get married at. So now, my mother was preparing me for the match maker, a tradition they've had in their family for ages. Mother handed me a dress.

I went into the bathroom and slipped it on

I went into the bathroom and slipped it on. My ears and tail perked up. I stepped out. My mother lifted my tail against my back before slipping the dress down and tying a pink ribbon around my waist to keep my tail on my back. Then, she grabbed a (h/c) wig out of a near by box. She put it on me, making sure to cover my ears. She quickly did my make up, doing a pale foundation and natural eyeshadow. My lips were colored rose pink.

Mother rushed me outside, "Now, hurry! You know where to go. Make us proud." I hurried down the street to the match maker. I knocked on the door. A woman answered, "Are you
(Y/n) (L/n)?" I nodded silently. She smiled, "Silent. Good." She led me inside where I went through a variety of tests. I passed each one. Everything was good, until my tail came out.

The ribbon got loose and my tail slipped out. The match maker looked at me in shock, then she kicked me out. She pushed me outside where my mother was waiting, "You will never find a husband with such a deformity!" My mother frowned and walked away. I turned and ran to the nearby park. I sat at the fountain, wiping away some tears. I tore off the wig, throwing it on the ground. I thought to myself, 'Look at me! I will never pass for a perfect bride. Or a perfect daughter...' I sighed.

I paused when I heard footsteps behind me. Then, I heard a boy's voice, "Are you alright?" My eyebrows furrowed. My ears and tail were clearly out, so why was he concerned about my wellbeing? I turned to face him. He looked to be in his early 20's. He wore red dress pants with a red waistcoat and white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. All of his brown hair was slicked back except for two pieces that looked like horns. I bit my lip.

"I...I'm fine. Who are you?" The boy sat next to me, "I'm Apollo. I saw that match maker kick you out earlier. If it makes you feel any better, I think your ears and tail make you unique and kind of cute." I blushed, "I'm (Y/n). And thanks for that. I really needed to hear it." He tilted his head, "No one's ever complimented your ears or tail before?" I shook my head, "No. Every since I can remember, my parents have made me hide them. They would tell me 'make one wrong move and everyone will know'. My parents considered their reputation too important to ruin." He looked at me.

"Then that's their loss. Putting their reputation over their daughter shows just how bad they are. They should have taught you that your distinct features are things you should love, not hide." I looked down, "Maybe, I'm not meant to play this part. I see that if I were truly to be myself, I would break my family's heart." He shook his head,  "They should love you for being yourself. And if they can't do that, then they have no right to judge you for something beyond your control." I dipped a hand into the water, watching the ripples form.

"Why is my reflection someone I don't know? It's just...somehow I cannot hide who I am even though I've tried.
When will my reflection show who I am inside, Apollo?" He took a handkerchief out of his pocket and dipped it into the fountain. He took it and wringed it out. He gently cleaned my face, removing all of the make up. After a few minutes, he spoke, "There. Look now." I looked at my reflection in the water. My skin and eyes looked brighter. I smiled, "This is who I am."

Just then, I heard my mother calling me, "(Y/n)! (Y/n)! Where are you?!" I jumped up, looking at Apollo, "I have to go! Meet me here tomorrow!" With that I shifted into my fox form and ran all the way home, Apollo's words ringing in my mind.
