I walked through the palace, glad to be getting some air. Nahyuta had gotten more protective over me as of late. I stopped in the courtyard, spotting Rayfa and Queen Amara sewing some stuff. I approached them, "Good afternoon your highnesses." They looked up at me. Queen Amara spoke, "Good afternoon (Y/n). How is my grandchild?"

I placed a hand on my stomach, "They are happy and healthy. Nahyuta is very overprotective." Rayfa laughed, "Braid head is more than stoic? How amusing." She looked at me, "Could you tell me how you met...?" I smiled, "Of course. It all began years ago."

**2 years ago**

I walked through the palace, heading to the courtyard to help Rayfa with her studies. As she grew older, it was my duty to teach her about mates and their purpose. My knowledge was somewhat limited since I hadn't found my mate yet. But I knew that my mate wouldn't want me once they saw it.

It was my Defiant Dragon's mark. Just like Dhurke's, it was on my hand. I wore gloves in public to hid it. I knocked on Rayfa's door, "Your benevolence. Are you ready for your lesson?" Rayfa called me from within, "Yes (Y/n). Come in." I opened the door and stepped inside. I stopped at the large table where she sat, "Alright, let's begin." Rayfa spoke, "Nayna is sick so mother has sent for a new teaching aide for you. He should be here soon."

I nodded, "Yes, your benevolence. But for now, let's go over the basics as we wait." I continued, "Your mate is the person you are meant to be with for the rest of your life. You can meet them at any age, but they can sometimes choose to reject you. This is very rare, but it can happen." Rayfa tilted her head, "How do you know who they are?" I smiled, "You will smell a scent that only they have and you'll know."

Just then, the door opened. Before I even turned around, a scent hit my nose. It smelt like flowers, peaches, and the forest. I turned to see Prosecutor Sahdmadhti standing there. He too, was sniffing the air. Rayfa was watching the two of us intently. I looked at her, "If you would excuse me your benevolence." I quickly moved past Nahyuta and out the door.

I didn't want to believe it. He wouldn't want me. He's made it clear that he despises anything to do with the rebellion. For the rest of the day, I avoided any contact with him. The next day, when I went to Rayfa's room, he was already there. I ignored him and started Rayfa's lesson, "Today, we will be learning about heat and the mating process. Heat is when a female becomes most fertile and is ready to produce pups. The mating process is a long process. You must first mate with your mate, then, they will mark you on your neck where they see fit, and a link for pain and emotions will be made."

Nahyuta spoke up, "Some females repress their heats by taking special medication and at your age, your benevolence, you may need them. As would Ms. (L/n) as I believe she has just turned 17?" (This is two years back, so reader is 17 and Nahyuta is 21, but nothing happened until she turned 18.) I nodded, "Yes. I have. Now back to the lesson." 30 minutes later, Rayfa was needed by her mother. She left the room and I started cleaning up.

I could hear Nahyuta shuffling around behind me. I paused as a warm feeling started to spread in my abdomen. I mentally cursed as I cleaned up even faster. Nahyuta stopped shuffling around. I heard him walk closer to me. The warmth grew into a heat, making my legs tremble slightly. I grabbed my things and turned to him. His eyes had darkened slightly. I hurried to the door.

"I'll see you tomorrow."

But I stayed in my room that whole month. Then, once it was over, I went back to teaching Rayfa. 2 years passed and the whole country was shaken to it's very core. I had found out that Rayfa was Nahyuta's sister and that Dhurke was their father. I also knew that Nahyuta didn't accept me as his mate yet, because the queen was using the people he loved against him.

Then, the trial began. It was so hard to watch Nahyuta suffer at the hands of that evil queen. Then, he did something surprising. He unclipped his hand covering and glanced at me before tossing away. He revealed his hand. On it was the Defiant Dragon's tattoo. I smiled. The moment was broken as the queen called for their immediate execution. I put a hand to my mouth. The royal guard stormed in. They aimed their guns at the attorneys and Nahyuta. But I still had hope.

They pulled through and defeated the queen. I went out to the lobby and paced around as I waited. Then, they came out along with Nahyuta. I approached him, "N-Nahyuta..." He looked at me, "(Y/n)...even after all this time, do you still want me?" I nodded, "Yes. I never stopped wanting you. I knew you were only keeping your distance to keep me safe." He smiled, "I am lucky to have you." Then, he kissed me. I held him close, regaining all of that lost time in just one kiss.

Rayfa smiled, "I see. I hope I can one day find happiness like that." From behind us, I heard Nahyuta, "(Y/n), I thought I told you not to leave without me." I turned to look at him, "I know, but I needed air Yuta. Sorry if I frightened you." He smiled, "There's no changing your stubborn mind, is there?" I giggled, "Of course. Come on. Walk with me." We said goodbye to Rayfa and Amara and kept walking.

Nahyuta spoke, "I love you (Y/n) and our child."

I smiled, "I love you too."

"You and our little boy..."
