Your Pov:
I sat in the hospital room, staring blankly at the wall. The doctor had just left with my kit to get the results. I wanted to sleep so badly, but every time I closed my eyes, the memory replayed like a broken record.
I had went to a party with Athena and Trucy. After we got there, I lost them in the crowds. I went outside for fresh air when a guy from the party sat next to me on the step. He said I was pretty and looked at me in a way that still keeps me from sleeping. I declined his advances, but he didn't care. When I walked around the edge of the building to get away from him, he followed me. Then, he did it.
He raped me.
Athena and Trucy found me 30 minutes later. By then, I had curled up against the wall in the remainder of my dress. They took me to the car and drove me to the hospital, but as they carried me past the front of the building, I saw him again. He stood there, talking with some other guys, as if he hadn't did what he did to me.
The door to the room opened, revealing Miles. He sat next to my bed, "(Y/n)...the doctors told me what happened." He squeezed my hand, "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I should've been there." I shook my head, "Don't apologize. It's not your fault." Just then, the doctor came in, "We have your results, Ms. (L/n). We were able to get a viable semen sample and create a profile. It's been sent to the police. You are free to go home now." I sat up slowly.
I had changed into regular clothes and we left the hospital. The car ride home was silent. Once we got inside the house, we headed upstairs. I sat in the bed. Miles spoke next to me, "The police will catch him. I'll make absolutely sure of it. And when his trial comes, I'll be there to put him behind bars. I promise you."
And a month later, that time came. The police caught him and his trial occurred 3 days later. I was called into to testify. I stood in the lobby with Miles. He was speaking to a man in a blue suit, "Today, there's nothing you can do to keep me from getting a guilty verdict, Wright." The man in the suit spoke, "My client is innocent." Miles scoffed, "Your client is a dirty liar." Then, court was called into session. The judge called me in.
I took the stand, shivering as I saw the man in the defendant's chair. I looked towards the judge. The judge spoke, "Ms. (L/n), could you please tell us about the night of the incident?" I nodded, "I went to a party with two of my friends. Once we got there, they headed into the crowds and I went out for some air. The man in the defendant's chair sat next to me outside and called me pretty. I..."
I hesitated, "...Went around the corner of the building to get away from him and he followed me. T-Then he..." The judge raised his hand, "Thank you, Ms. (L/n). You don't have to say anymore." I nodded silently. Miles glared coldly at the man in the defendant's chair. His jaw was clenched and stiff. The judge turned to the defense attorney, "Your thoughts, Mr. Wright?" The defense attorney spoke, "The defense believes it is too early state it's thoughts."
The judge nodded and turned to Miles, "And the Prosecution?" Miles spoke, his voice cold and sharp, "The Prosecution's thoughts have not changed. The prosecution believes the defendant to be guilty." The judge nodded, "Does the prosecution have evidence to support their claim?" Miles nodded, "Yes, your honor. We have the results of the victim's rape kit and security tapes from the outside of the building where the party was held." The judge spoke.
"Bailiff, the tape player if you please." The bailiff brought it in and the tape was played. It showed everything I said, besides the actual crime. The judge hmm'd, "By this evidence alone, I think I can hand down my verdict. Does the defense have anything to add?" The defense attorney bowed his head, "No your honor." The judge nodded, "Then I declare the defendant guilty. Court is adjourned."
I left the courtroom and waited in the lobby for Miles. He came out minutes later. He held my hands. I smiled, "Thank you so much." He squeezed my hands, "I said I'd put him behind bars, didn't I? I never go back on my promises. I love you too much to do so." I hugged him, "Still, thank you. Now, let's go home. I need to rest."
Miles nodded, "Yes. Let's."
He continued as we walked out of the courthouse together.
"I know I couldn't protect you then, but I promise to protect you now."
