Betrayal & Love (Lang x Reader)

Your Pov:

I stood by as Edgeworth spoke to a woman I knew quite well. She grinned. "The Yatagarasu has three legs. Do you know why that is?" Edgeworth looked at her.

"The Yatagarasu is known to have three special skills. Skill number one. The Yatagarasu always knows the exact location of the target object. And a lawyer would have the opportunity to learn the layout of client corporations. Skill number two. The Yatagarasu always knows exactly how to disarm the security system. And a good prosecutor would be well-versed in the ways of a criminal."

A voice came from behind Shih-Na as she tightened her grip on Kay.

Detective Badd.

"And skill number three... The Yatagarasu doesn't have leave a single shred of evidence behind...ever..."

Then, I spoke up, catching everyone's attention. "But the Yatagarasu has another hidden secret: the fourth leg."

Lang's gaze met mine, but I looked away as I continued. "Those with Interpol know anything and everything. Especially someone who also holds a judge's seat."

At the age of 20, I took over the judge's seat and rose up the ranks in Interpol.

That's when I met the other members of the Yatagarasu and...Lang. I agreed with the motives of the group and joined them.

I controlled the verdict in the courtroom and the spread of information outside of it. Working with Interpol allowed me to spread the news of these corrupt dealings internationally. I was also privy to information the others couldn't get their hands on.

And so, I became the secret fourth leg of the Yatagarasu.

I looked at the group. "Guilty or not guilty? That was my job. The smuggling ring had their fair share of scapegoats and they were all declared guilty. Then, using the information submitted to me, I could scan through Interpol's data base. They were exposed and they knew it."

Shih-Na spoke up. "Yes. That is why they sent me. Byrne Faraday's death was just a stepping stone in the plan." I narrowed my eyes. "You were after me, but killed him because you were misinformed. You had everything reversed, unfortunately for you."

Her grip on Kay tightened more. "Yes, well, it's time for the Yatagarasu to disappear once ag-"

She was cut off by Detective Badd.

"Yew!"

I didn't even think as I threw myself in front of Lang as he grabbed Shih-Na.

I felt the bullet pierce the right side of my pelvis, making me collapse to the ground. Kay was safe and Shih-Na was being handled by Lang. Badd kneeled down next to me. "You've always thought with your heart instead of your brain, huh?" My gaze flickered to Lang, but he looked away. Badd looked at the group.

"She'll live, but she needs medical care."

As my vision faded, I heard a voice.

"I'll take care of it..."

...

I woke up in a hospital room. Bandages were placed on the bullet wound. As I sat up, the door opened, revealing Lang. He stood next to the bed. He was silent for a few seconds.

"...I never expected you to be working with...them."

I looked at him. "I believed in their cause. They were helping the public. They did wrong, I know that." He sat down in the chair next to the bed. "Your judgements...were they fair and just? Or are they corrupt like the prosecutors here?" I sighed.

"Each judgement I've passed was fair. They were smugglers or scapegoats of the Amano Group. None of them were innocent."

He moved a document into my view. "Shih-Na...she was telling the truth. You and Byrne Faraday. It's all here. She's in jail awaiting extraction to Zheng Fa." I looked at the paper. "Byrne Faraday was killed by accident. The ringleader thought that he was the one working with Interpol and that's when 'Yew' was sent."

I continued, "But when the information from Interpol kept getting exposed even after that, they realized their mistake. Byrne Faraday was killed in my place." Lang hesitated. "But you can't be like them. You...You took that bullet for me. And that takes guts."

I looked at him. "Huh? But I-" He cut me off. "That no longer matters. Those three are criminals who did wrong while doing right, but you are not. You still gave fair verdicts and only released information that you had rights to as an Interpol agent. And that in of itself is brave."

I smiled. "I'm glad you think so."

He grinned. "You know, I could use a secretary like you. That is, if you're up to it." I hummed. "I'd love too."

And with that, one chapter of my life ended while a new one began.
