Should Be (Army! Phoenix x Reader)

Your Pov:

I stood in my bedroom, looking in the mirror. A beautiful white wedding dress hugged my figure as my hands held a large bouquet of red roses.

It was two weeks after the day she turned eighteen. All dressed in white, going to the church that night...

The longer I stared, the longer I recalled the memories.

**Flashback...2 months ago...**

Phoenix and I sat under the tree in front of our house. I sighed, "I'm going to miss you, you know?" He looked at me, "I know. I'll miss you, too." I leaned my head on his shoulder, "I'm just nervous for tomorrow. You'll be leaving then." Phoenix shook his head, "Don't be nervous. Tomorrow is just another day." The next morning I followed Phoenix outside.

It was time for him to leave. I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck, "I love you, and when you come back, we'll start our family, ok?" He nodded, "I can't wait. I love you." With that, he got on the bus and left. I waved until he was out of sight.

**Flashback over**

I looked towards the bed to see the box of letters. All of them were from him. I sighed and looked towards the closed closet door.

She had his box of letters in the passenger seat. Sixpence in her shoe. Something borrowed, something blue. And when the church doors opened up wide, she put her veil down trying to hide the tears...

I opened the closet door and pulled out a simple black dress. I unzipped the white dress and put it into the closet. I put on the black dress and grabbed a black birdcage veil.

I looked into the mirror. Then, I grabbed the bouquet of flowers, willing myself to leave the house and get into the car. The drive to the church was dead silent. No one cares to speak a word. Soon enough, we arrived at the church. I was the last to get out of the car. I looked up at the building. We were going to have our wedding in this church.

The doors opened. Both families sat on different sides. I kept my gaze on the floor until I arrived at my seat. It was a simple white chair, but what was draped over the back almost made me break down.

His jacket was draped over the back.

I sat in the chair, listening to the words of the ceremony. Two men in military uniforms stood to the side of the coffin. They were a part of the military band. They brought out two trumpets and began to play.

Oh she just couldn't believe it. She heard the trumpets from the military band. And the flowers fell out of her hands...

Tears ran down my face as my body heaved from silent sobs. As the ceremony came to a close, I placed the flowers on the coffin, my hand brushing the cold wood. We then headed to the cemetery to finish the ceremony.

Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go? I was counting on forever, now I'll never know! I can't even breathe. It's like I'm looking from a distance, standing in the background. Everybody's saying "He's not coming home now". This can't be happening to me. This is just a dream...

I stood next to my mother as the ceremony continued. The sky was cloudy and thunder rumbled across the sky. The preacher asked us to pray, but I didn't even have the strength to lift my hands. We all then sang a song of grief. Then, another man in an army uniform removed the flag from the coffin before folding it and handing it to me. I held back tears.

The preacher man said let us bow our heads and pray. Lord please lift his soul and heal this hurt. Then the congregation all stood up
and sang the saddest song that she ever heard. Then they handed her a folded up flag...

I clutched the flag to my chest as the army men prepared their guns. The orders were given and the guns were fired. My heart thumped painfully in my chest as thoughts of him ran through my head.

And she held on to all she had left of him. Oh, and what could've been.
And then guns rang one last shot and it felt like a bullet in her heart.

Everyone filed quietly out of the cemetery after the ceremony ended. A car was left for me to drive home in after I finished at the cemetery. I looked at the grave, reading it.

Phoenix Wright
19xx-20xx
Loving Son, Boyfriend, and Father
Rest In Peace

I finally broke down. I fell to my knees in front of the grave, sobs ripping their way out of my throat as I clutched the flag to my chest. He was gone and there was nothing I could've done to prevent it.

Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go? I was counting on forever. Now I'll never know! Oh, I'll never know! It's like I'm looking from a distance, standing in the background. Everybody's saying "He's not coming home now". This can't be happening to me. This is just a dream...

I let my arms fall to my stomach where a small bump had formed. I hadn't known when Phoenix left, but I was pregnant. I had been a few weeks along by the time I found out.

I wished that I would just wake up in bed, snuggling up to Phoenix, but this was reality. This was the real world. A place full of depression and loss as well as happiness and recovery.

I stood up, my sobs now quieted into sniffles. I gripped the flag tightly as I walked to the car. As I reached the cemetery gates, I looked back one last time before getting into the car and driving home.

Oh, this is just a dream. Just a dream... (yeah, yeah)
