Chase POV
I visited those in service to me almost hourly, but Kiera still hadn't woken. Our doctor assured me she just needed rest, but I needed to see her face.
After two days, I heard movement in her room, and my eyes were fixed on her door. I held my breath, eagerly anticipating her to open it. Finally, my goddess emerged, and I knew I'd never tire of witnessing her face or hearing her voice.
Despite her lingering fatigue, she appeared stronger than when she first arrived. The desire to retaliate against those who harmed her overwhelmed me. Loki was keen on seeking vengeance, but my resilient fire pixie had already defended herself.
As she began speaking, her anger was evident. My insides churned, witnessing the intensity of her emotions. I found myself drawn to the dark scowl she cast my way, captivated by the attitude emanating from her sharp tongue.
I couldn't be an idiot and completely ignore the glaring facts. It was no coincidence that Jackson was nowhere to be found, and then she just happens to show up at my doorstep.
My men believed she was part of a raid on an auction house the South held to trade money for power. They claimed they heard her shouting and ran after her, but it seemed more like she made herself known to be captured and was brought straight to us.
She appeared so defeated and hopeless that I wanted to believe she just fell into my lap by chance. The desire to be her savior consumed me, but I couldn't ignore the sense of power emanating from her. Kiera didn't need a savior; for some reason, she seemed to only want her pathetic husband. The idea of her collaborating with him to take us out enraged me to no end. She was supposed to be our mate, not his!
I stormed out of the room and instructed Evie to have them scrub the entire grand hall.
Concealed in the shadows, I observed everyone in my service, casting extended glances at my mate. Although she was a powerful creature, my little pixie seemed clueless about cleaning a floor. Amusement filled me as she diligently scrubbed a tile with a dry toothbrush, finding contentment in the seemingly daunting task.
I acknowledged that I was approaching a point of obsession with Kiera. Despite being unable to have her, I found some solace in watching her. Loki only grew more and more agitated that I resisted the urge to approach her though.
I finally tore my eyes off her body when River incessantly ordered me to come to him. If I didn't comply, he would come to me, and I couldn't risk my brothers finding her. I wouldn't allow them to take her from me.
As I walked into his office, River wasted no time delivering news, "Elizabeth is sending the next convoy out to bring the rest of the Nightmare pack here."
"Great!" I turned to leave.
"In a hurry, little brother? What mischief are you up to now?" River cocked a brow at me, sensing that something was distracting me.
"Nothing! The prisoners need to be looked over. There has been some drama."
"Drama? I bet you are the root of it. No taking anyone for a private tour of your bedroom. We agreed after the last fiasco." River gave me that fatherly look.
"I only slept with like... ten southerners."
"Ten?"
"Sucking my dick doesn't count. I didn't force any of them." I began protesting, but River wasn't in the mood for my antics.
"You're taking advantage of them and we both know that. Don't mess around with any of them, Chase. At least wait until they are a part of our pack."
"Got it! I need to get back." I shot my thumb behind my shoulder at the door. I was too far from Kiera. What if something happened and she needed me?
