Kiera POV
Waking from the anesthesia was excruciating, but seeing my little boy in his father's arms lit up my heart. He was perfect, and he was ours.
Every single pack member wanted to meet their future Alpha, and I saw the hope in their eyes. Sebastian was more than just a newborn; he was a symbol of renewal and resilience. For months, we had searched our world, trying to eradicate any lingering evil and praying Dietus remained confined to the dark forest. The battles we fought, the sacrifices we made, all led to this moment. The birth of our son wasn't just the start of a new life but the dawn of a new era for our people.
As we gathered in the heart of our territory, the sun setting behind the Southern tropical forest, casting a golden hue over the landscape, I could feel the profound shift within our community. The whispers of hope and renewal filled the air, and each pack member's gaze upon Sebastian was a silent vow of loyalty and protection. He was not just our son; he was the son of the pack, a child born from the ashes of our struggles, destined to lead us into a new age.
"Is it done?" I smiled wide at Chase, who held his phone to his ear, waiting for a response from the North.
Elizabeth had reorganized much of the North, allowing wolves to choose their packs freely and assigning new Alphas to rule over the territories. This freedom restored a sense of community and strength among the wolves, reinforcing the bonds that had been strained by years of conflict and darkness. The wall was built, leaving just a small gap, symbolizing the final step in ensuring our safety.
"It's done!" Chase said, mirroring my smile. The wall was sealed, marking a permanent boundary against the evil that once threatened us.
I glanced at Sebastian, sleeping peacefully in my arms after drinking most of the milk I had. He didn't shift or stir. The brothers moved closer, forming a protective half-circle around us. We listened to his heart, praying that locking Dietus away would have no effect on him.
After thirty agonizing minutes, I finally sighed in relief. "He is okay. Dietus won't harm any of us ever again," I said proudly.
"No, he won't," Drake declared.
"Thank you, Lizzy. Sebastian is safe," Chase said into the phone before I snatched it from his hands. I needed to hear her voice and share my joy with her.
"We are coming home. I want to see you when we arrive, Lizzy. Promise me," I pleaded. My life was perfect, and while I had no regrets, I felt the absence of someone important. Elizabeth was my friend, someone I trusted and honored. Though we had to part ways, it was crucial for my son to know her; the woman who helped bring him into this world.
"I promise, Luna. We have a little surprise for you," she said cryptically.
"I have a surprise for you too," I grinned, feeling a sense of excitement.
"Ooo, I can't wait. Miss you, all of you," she said with longing in her tone. We were her family, and I knew she needed us just as much as we needed her.
"We miss you too," I said, my eyes meeting River's and sensing his longing to speak to her. He wouldn't show it, and it hurt that he had to bury this connection he had with her for me. I wanted to make it right, and I knew the only way possible was for Elizabeth to find her mate. It was my new top priority now that Sebastian and our world were free of the darkness.
Sebastian's tiny breaths were steady and calm, a rhythmic reminder of the peace we had fought so hard to achieve. The room was bathed in a warm, golden light that seemed to signify a new beginning. My heart swelled with gratitude and love as I looked at my mates and our son, feeling a deep connection to each of them. We had overcome so much, and now, our future looked brighter than ever.
By morning, we had packed the car to head North and finally return to our second home. The brothers never complained, but I felt their longing to be back where they were raised. Each of them wanted to show Sebastian all he would rule and where he came from.
Maggie was loaded with her mate and three daughters in the car behind us. When she asked to take in Ruby and the other two babies, I immediately replied yes. I already knew how much love and affection she would give them, but I had one stipulation: she and her mate had to agree to spend half their time in the North with us.
I knew there was a bond between Ruby and Sebastian, but I didn't want to be too presumptuous to assume they might be fated mates. At the very least, they would be lifelong friends, ones that would protect each other against all odds. Ruby wouldn't remember how she helped me all this time in my dreams, or that she was the one who brought my mates and Sebastian back to life, but I would. She was family, and I wanted her close to us, all of us.
