Keira POV
"You're awake?" Andy's voice jolted me from my daydream. I crumbled the paper in my hand and smiled at him.
"Yeah, I've been awake for a while."
"Bad dream again?"
"You can say that."
"I'm guessing you don't want to talk about it."
"Not really." I looked down at the ball of paper when Lupa's words echoed around me. "Don't carry the weight alone."
"Want to grab breakfast?" Andy said after I was quiet for a moment.
"Sounds good, and one day, Andy, I want to tell you about my dreams. I do trust you, and I know you're a good friend. I just never thought of them as anything more than night terrors until recently." My eyes peered into the nursery, thoughts wondering about what gifts Ruby had.
"Whenever you're ready, I'm here. The nurses are on their way to watch over them. They are safe, Kiera." Andy reassured me as I continued to stare into their room.
"I know, thank you."
Once the nurses arrived and I ensured that Ruby and her two companions were being watched over, I headed down for breakfast and then endured another gruesome four hours of training.
After training was complete for the morning, I gave them all new tasks for the rest of the day. I met with Becky, Sandra, and Maggie, and much was left to be done.
Walking back to the barracks, I almost ran into a woman I wasn't sure how to handle. Her brown hair was wound in a bun, and her body was dressed in a sophisticated business suit. Her heels were at least four inches, and I wasn't sure how she walked so effortlessly in them.
"Luna Kiera." Elizabeth bowed her head to me.
"No need to be so formal. Is there something I can help you with?" I spoke nervously. I felt like a dirty woman. One that slept with another woman's man. I didn't know the full circumstances of their relationship, but I knew River and she did have something between them.
"I met with the Alphas this morning, and they informed me you were rearranging the houses. I wanted to offer my services to you. Now that I am back, I can resume my responsibilities as head woman."
"Head General." Athena quickly growled at her.
"Of course, I like that title much better." She quickly said, but it made me think she was being too nice.
For some reason, Elizabeth reminded me of Katherine. In my experience, when someone was this nice, it was because they had an ulterior motive, one that usually meant betrayal.
"I have it all sorted, Elizabeth. You can carry on with other tasks the North needs."
"I have always ran River's side of the house." She seemed almost sad that I would take this from her. She can't possibly think I would believe a high general of the North cared to watch over Southern prisoners.
"Well, he doesn't need you anymore." My jaw tightened shut. The second the words left my mouth, I felt like a total ass. I realized jealousy was consuming me, and I didn't know how to handle it. I didn't even want River. In fact, I wished he would walk off a cliff, but I also didn't like that she was once his girlfriend.
"Right, understood." She lowered her head and turned from me.
I wanted to call her back to apologize for my rude behavior, but I couldn't find my voice.
"Elizabeth is a trusted friend of ours, Cherie. That was a bit uncalled for." Chase's voice was behind me, and I closed my eyes tight. That was embarrassing enough; I had hoped no one else witnessed it.
