These Thing I Don't Remember

Why is he changing the subject so suddenly.

"About me and my past?" I asked.

"Yes" he started, "I can't carry this around any longer - you need to know"

Carrying around any longer?

So whatever he's about to say, he has known this for a while.

Kinda creepy considering that he was very distant..

"Go on" I mumbled while I started frowning a little as well.

He took a deep breath and squeezed my hands a little.

"First of all. I love you. I've said it before.. But I can't say it enough after I've been so.. Distant lately. Just yesterday you told me about something you figured out about your past and yes, it's horrible. I'm sorry, I should've been there for you. My reaction yesterday was heartless. There is absolutely no excuse for that. But I have my reasons and I wanna explain them to you." he began to say.

I just nodded because I fully agreed with him and I really didn't want to say that it was okay because it wasn't.

"Okay.. so.. I've been doing my researches and I've figured some things out. You said you've been held hostage by ghouls - well.. You've been held hostage by the Aogiri Tree. They took you in when you were 14, right after your family's death. Remember the photos you showed me all those months ago? You were next to ghouls of all ages. Ghouls from the Aogiri Tree. Anyway. We shouldn't talk about what happened over the next years but I want you to know that I'm well aware of what they did to you - and I would've never expected that because when we met you were such a cheerful woman with no fear. You were and you are very strong, please don't forget that." he explained.

"Someone - very familiar - rescued you when you were 18 or 19. It was Kanou. He actually adopted you - there are legal papers referring to you as his child but it's not using your actual name. You've been given a new name in order to start a new life, it was Yuka (憂花) Kanou. All information to you under your actual name, (Y/N) (Y/L/N), has been transmitted to your new name - which is why there's barely any information to your actual name and it was as if you didn't really exist. I assume Kanou either paid a lot of money to make all connections to your names disappear or the police did a horrible job because usually they'd be connected. Like.. if they'd search for your actual name, some information would say that your name has been changed but I guess that was not the case."

This information really surprised me, making me raise my eyebrows.

Wait what.. My doctor is my adoptive father? Wait.. why is he not telling me that himself.

Is he trying to keep it a secret? But why..?!

It sounds really sketchy.. Maybe he's still a little drunk and somehow makes things up? I mean.. I could taste the wine on his lips and he does smell a lot like it too..
