Over the next following weeks your state continuously got better. With each passing day, you remembered more of what happened and all of Renji's violent actions slowly sank in. They still seemed surreal but thanks to all the evidence he left on you - your damaged vertebra's, your still sore jaw and your lifeless legs - they became very real, very quick. With each passing day, you regained a part of your life back. Not only could you eat on your own, your speaking gradually improved as well. It didn't take long before you got curious about how long you'd been staying and found out that it was already December. Christmas was coming up and you had no one to spend it with. No one you wanted to spend it with anyway. Your language skills slowly returning also meant that you could speak to Chigyou about Renji. With your consciousness returning, your emotions and feelings followed. Especially the negative ones towards your former lover. He was no longer the one you loved, he was simply the one who left a hole and a dull emptiness in your heart. Being with him, spending time with the one who severely abused you, made you feel very uneasy. That's why he had to leave.. But even with Chigyou's help, he never left for good, he only ever left for a couple of hours. His explanation was that he wanted to be there with you on your road of recovery. You didn't believe him.. But at least you managed to get some much-needed bonding time with you baby.
Your life took another turn for the worse when Chigyou announced that, at least for a couple of months, you'd have to stick to a wheelchair. It was up to your kakuhous to heal you, normal humans would barely ever recover. That meant that you needed someone to help you do daily tasks. While you would still spend some more weeks at the hospital and therefore had various doctors check on you, you still needed someone to spent time with you, take you out, show you around the area. Step by step, you had to be carried back into your actual life. Nurses and doctors could only do so much, you needed a friend to guide you into daily activities.
No matter how hard you protested, there was only one person capable of helping you: Renji.
If you had more friends, you'd have multiple choices, but unfortunately you didn't. Touka was the only other option but she was bound to her school work and therefore didn't have time. Hearing that you'd have to spend more time with him greatly upset you. Out of all the people, it had to be him. Ironically, the one causing your situation was the only one that could help you back out.
As soon as Chigyou informed him about his fortune, he hopped back into the car and ran into the hospital minutes later. To Renji, it was a huge chance at making up with you, getting back together with you - so, of course he didn't decline the offer, much to your dismay. Until the very last moment, you had hoped he would just leave you and your baby alone for good. But no, he returned.
From there on out, he started taking you out of the hospital once a day. You were positioned on a wheelchair, clothes baggy and warm since it was winter and your neck brace tightened so you could sit up straight without any pain. While you were taken to parks to gaze at the beauty of nature, you were boiling within. Being with him still made you uneasy, entering shortcuts by walking through tiny, dark alleyways made your heart race a mile a minute.
On one of your first trips you were confronted with Kanou and the Aogiri Tree again for the first time in ages. News reported that Kanou was still locked away and guilty in various cases of non consensual 'ghoulification', an unforgivable act. At least it gave you hope of a Kanou-less future. Perhaps even a Aogiri Tree-less one, too.
Today Renji had informed you that he'd take you to a special place. You were more anxious than excited, as usual, but you tried to hide that. He normally only got to see your angry or stoic expression, those were all the emotions you wanted to show to him while you were still pregnant and on a high amount of painkillers and other medicine to treat your threatening depression. You waited until the right moment for all your emotions to burst into a fit of rage but right now, you were too weak, still regaining your power. You didn't want to waste your little power on him but spend it on your baby instead... on the baby that would grow into a messed up 'family'.
