Frenemy

The person, the body, didn't reply.

He looked so much like Renji, tears started rolling down my cheek.

"Renji?! Renji, please!" I shouted, hoping that he was just asleep.

No reaction at all, no movement, no nothing.

My vision wasn't good enough to let me see if he was breathing or not, which worried me even more.

What if they hurt him?! What if he's dead.. Oh god.. Maybe he tried to save me but they killed him.. And now he's just rotting in here..

I tried to spread the bars apart but obviously they were too solid and I was too weak - a ghoul could have a chance but since I was barely a half-ghoul I had absolutely no chance.

Shit..!

"Help!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, hoping for someone to come - preferably the dude who introduced himself as my brother.

No one came to get me.

"Anybody!?" I screamed.

Maybe he's still alive.. - I have to help him!

This time, the door was opened by one of the guards from earlier.

He stormed to my cell and started unlocking it.

"Please, you have to help him, he's going to die.. But I c-can't let that happen.. Please" I begged him as he started approaching me.

His presence was unpleasant and menacing because he was built so tall and strong, filling me with fear. It even dried my eyes out and stopped me from crying - I didn't want to show him any signs of weakness.

I glanced up at him and hoped for a response, but instead of speaking to me he slapped me, forcing my head to snap to the right due to the impact.

"Shut up" he said with a threatening voice.

"Please, I'll do anything b-but help him" I continued to beg while my cheek was burning and I tried hard not to cry.

The guy started frowning deeply and I could tell that he prepared to hit me again but then someone interrupted him.

"Did I hear her beg for this ghoul's life to be spared?" Kanou asked while he seemed to be standing in the doorway.

"Please just help him.. I'll do anything!" I shouted while I slowly got up.

Kanou chuckled and motioned something to the guard.

What does that mean...?

The guard grunted as he grabbed my arm and started pulling me out of my cell - he obviously didn't agree with that decision.

I kept staring at the lifeless body, hoping to find out if it really was Renji or not but my vision was just too bad.

As the guard walked me over to Kanou he took a new needle out right away - ready to inject something into my body.
