Reflection

We both slept for as long as we wanted to, we were beyond exhausted and needed sleep to heal, so we didn't want to use an alarm clock or something similar to wake us up.

At first my pain was bothering me, waking me up every few minutes after a bit that stopped entirely and I managed to catch some peaceful hours of sleep in Renji's arms.

No nightmares, no anxiety - I felt good.

It felt like a luxury that we could sleep on a comfortable bed this time - my bones and especially my back gratefully appreciated it.

As I woke up for good, Renji had nuzzled his face into my neck and placed a soft kiss on it every now and then while one of his arms was resting around my waist.

"Mmh~ good morning" I hummed with a more stable sounding voice.

"G'morning" Renji mumbled against my skin with a very deep voice, meaning that he probably woke up only a few minutes before me.

He slowly moved away from me and sat up on one elbow, glancing down at me he asked: "How're you doing?"

A smile spread across my lips as I realized that he looked a lot better, his skin was not as pale as before and his eye bags and some bruises were almost gone.

Thinking that my body perhaps healed as much as well, but I fell right back into my bed - my back was still aching too much.

Groaning, I sighed.

Renji helped me sit and then pulled me into his arms.

To sit on my own was easy and no problem, but to lift my body hurt.

Wrapping my arms around his neck he wrapped his own around my waist, still waiting for my reply.

"Decent.. the pain's gotten better.." I replied, completely forgetting that I had trouble speaking earlier.

His eyes widened and the corner of his mouth started lifting: "You can speak again?"

"I guess" I shrugged.

"That's amazing.. So it was a good choice to let you sleep.."

"Let me sleep?"

"Yeah, you've been asleep for about.. 28 hours?

28 hours straight? Insane..

My eyebrows raised in surprise and he chuckled.

"Well. your body was really weak, I guess it's normal" he snickered.

"Wait, but that means today's still the 21st, right?" I asked as I realized that last time I was awake it was the 20th.

"Uhm, yeah. You slept through the entire 20th and now it's about 10am on the 21st."

Putting my hand on his shoulder I softly shook him, even though it had zero effect on him because he was much stronger than me: "We have to start our christmas preparations!"
