Renji's eyes first opened in the middle of the night, two days after his outrage. He was furious, pulled all the cables away from him, damaging one of the monitors in the process. Curses were thrown around the room, promising to make them pay for what the CCG did to him. Just as he was about to storm out of the room, he saw your fragile frame laying on the bed beside his'. His anger had woken you up but you didn't know how to address him, how to help him. But as he saw you, his shoulders visibly lowered and his expression softened. The words you shared minutes later made you realize that he was still upset with you but that he also genuinely cared for you. You were the first to know that he had zero memories of the past days, of how he got where you were. All he claimed to remember was being freed from a machine that had been sucking his life out for the past weeks. His memories fade the moment he was standing on his own two feet. As you tried to explain it all to him, he was visibly fed up with what they did and about what you claimed he did - he didn't believe he'd do anything and kept declining it, pretending you were lying.

It was no secret that he didn't agree with any of the CCG's actions. Though he tried hard to hold back, you sometimes felt like he was blaming you for all of this. You decided to keep it a secret that you were pregnant with his child until the time was right, preferably until you were out of this place and everything would've calmed down.

Once some nurses finally realized that Renji was pronounced dead due to him having pulled off the connection to the monitor, they stormed in - only to find him sitting on your bed. They were relieved but Renji's anger, mixed with frustration, returned. The nurses ignored that, followed their job instead and brought him the food he had to eat before he'd lose control again. He denied it, explaining that he wouldn't eat the food an enemy provided him. It took half an hour of your convincing to make him take a bite - and that's when the ice broke and he ate it all in one go.

As the day went on and he was informed that both you and him could move into an old cottage for a bit, he became more and more suspicious. While you were rather grateful for all their help, Renji only saw the danger and potential traps. Sometimes his hurt by your big lie poked through and so it happened that he even declined to live with you. His explanation was that he couldn't trust you anymore and wanted to spend some time alone. Seconds later he was smiling at you, though, pretending like he didn't just spill hurtful words at you. Chigyou managed to change his decision by mentioning positive aspects such as the beautiful nature and how he could still roam off into the nearby forest and build a hideout if he wanted to get away so badly. All the arguing before he finally agreed just increased the heartbreak for you. While all he wanted was to get away, all you wanted was to get closer to him. To know, that he was not moving in there with you because he truly loved you, but because he was convinced to, hurt you greatly. Not any kind of medication could save you from feeling bad about this. You tried to hold back the sadness, though. For the sake of your baby, which didn't need to suffer from even more stress.

On a bright note, all your wounds were healing effortlessly and all your pain was gone almost entirely. Except for your heartache. Little did you know that it wasn't getting easier anytime soon.

Only a day later, Chigyou managed to do the last check-up on both of you which resulted in him announcing your departure. And then everything happened extremely fast. In a moment of silence, when Renji wasn't nearby, you received your contract. Everything was explained thoroughly and you could swear that it was a bulletproof contract, yet you had no time to overthink and had to sign it on the spot. And you did. Then your old stuff, the bags you had packed for your first apartment, were brought to you out of nowhere. A car was brought to a back door, waiting to take you to your new place. Since Chigyou knew of your pregnancy, he ensured that someone else would carry your backpack for you, as it was quite heavy and too dangerous for your pregnancy. Renji was suspicious until the very last second, carried his bags on his own and let no other person help him. He entered the car without hesitation but the strain was written all over his face. And then you both took off. All the other questions you had prepared for Chigyou were forgotten about, there was no time to ask and now you were gone - for a bit. It was a relief for you but a struggle for Renji. The car ride was very silent, the tension was high -no one dared to speak. Where they were taking you was uncertain to both of you. If they wanted to harm you, they could, both of you were unarmed and not prepared to fight.
