His expression full of disbelief, disappointment and confusion. He clearly didn't understand but I hoped he'd give me a chance to explain. That he was already sounding quite a bit fed up was making my heart race. A fight was the last thing I needed right now.
"Y-yes, it was-.. Chigyou..-" I stuttered, my smile slowly fading as I tried to find the words to justify my action.
How can I explain this to him without mentioning my pregnancy..
"I can't believe you right now..- Why would you do that..?! Haven't you learned from your mistakes?" he wondered, his voice raising just a bit.
"It-It's a good contract."
"A good contract?!.. With the CCG? Impossible.." Renji persisted, shaking his head as he looked at the contract, reading through parts of it.
"But it is!" I emphasized while I leaned against the doorframe, crossing my hands over my chest, "Just read it!"
"It mentions another baby - so, now you own 2 children to two different doctors or what?! How great" he remarked sarcastically before he continued reading.
Though I didn't mean to, I cracked a small smile that I immediately wanted to hide. Since he still didn't know that I was pregnant, he couldn't understand that I was getting help for our baby.
Of course, this must sound weird to him.
"If you keep going like this you'll be pregnant permanently for the next couple of years. That's ridiculous!" he argued, a frown quite present on his forehead by now.
The thought made me giggle because, indeed, that was ridiculous. I clasped a hand over my mouth to damp the sound.
"And you think that's funny?!"
I bit my lip softly, my smile still present, and nodded.
If only he knew.
"What is wrong with you. Why do you sell your body like it's nothing.." he sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Renji, I don't own him another child" I explained as I slowly approached him with a smile, stopping right in front of the bags he was kneeling behind.
This is not the right time to tell him that I'm pregnant. I'll have to explain it without mentioning that.
"'course you do! Here, look at this paragraph" he said while he waved the paper around before he held it towards my face and pointed at a paragraph.
Even though I knew what these paragraphs said, I took it from him and re-read - just to ensure Chigyou didn't put a small note in there that says that our baby would belong to him. He didn't, there was no such note.
