"Over there!" someone shouted, followed by the sound of a troop coming after us.
Glancing over my shoulder I saw about 4 investigators running towards us. None of them seemed like they were high rated, didn't even have proper weapons. Weak or strong - it didn't matter. They were still our enemies. And if they'd get in our way, I would take them down.. Somehow.
Touka helped me pick Renji up. For the sake of speed, I decided to carry him on my back. That way I wouldn't have to carry him with my arms but with my back. Both would be a challenge but, in this case, the back was the easier way to go.
"Can you lead the way?" I spoke to Hinami while I tugged on Renij's arms and bend forward at the same time, positioning him on me.
"Yes!" she proclaimed.
"We can't let them get away!" the same voice from before yelled.
Bullets were shot at us. Hinami and Touka were quick to dodge them, both basically just running for their lives. But I couldn't. And I refused to use Renji as a shield - it could potentially kill him and I definitely didn't want that. So I decided to take the hits. However, just when I braced for impact, the bullets were sent flying off into the distance. Again, my body somehow managed to create a shield around us. As much as it surprised me, I had no time to wonder about it. I was just glad that I didn't have to take another hit and tried my best to run after Hinami and Touka.
We were slower but managed to keep up with them. Renji eventually groaned into my ear, giving me a sign he was "alright", alive and probably healing. Relieved of that, I gave my best to get us to a safe place.
What I couldn't foresee were arrows flying at us. More precisely, at my legs. And this time, probably because I didn't notice it before, it went through to pierce them. It was aimed that well, it apparently cut my muscles, making me fall to the floor in an instant. The bone itself was - if anything - mildly scraped.
Biting my lip from the pain, I saw the group of investigators coming for us.
"Get the suppressant ready!"
"Where are the handcuffs!?"
"Is your weapon loaded?"
"She killed Kanou!"
"We should blast her head off!"
Now that they were closer, I could tell it was a squad. What I assumed was the leader almost seemed like a child, a teen at most - but his looks were deceiving. He had a scythe. From up this close, he seemed a lot more dangerous.
Shit, I gotta get up..!
Touka nor Hinami seemed to notice we were no longer following them - and I lost track of where they went. I was lost and wounded. Pulling the arrows out of my legs, I groaned lightly. Blood poured out of the wound and I could feel it tearing at my muscles. I had no time to waste, though, so I immediately attempted to get back up. Hell, I could already feel my legs healing but the squad was too fast. I didn't have enough time.
