"Who is up first today?" Mr. Schue asked as Julia immediately raised her hand.
"Layton and I can go," Julia said.
"Great," Mr. Schue said, taking a seat as Julia and Layton stood up, holding hands but eventually breaking off to stand in their spots.
The Glee club was blown away after the first note came out of her mouth. Sure the glee club had seen the video of Julia singing, but never a live performance.
As Julia sang the first verse, Layton and Santana couldn't hold back their smiles as Julia kept her eyes closed, pretending she was singing in her room for her little sister and not the entire glee club. As much as Julia liked to say she wasn't afraid of anything, she still had a bit of stage fright which was another reason she hadn't revealed her voice to the class last year.
As soon as Julia started the chorus, her and Layton fell into a contemporary dance routine that Julia had choreographed. It looked like a slowed-down version of a vocal adrenaline number that included a number of lifts and various other dance moves.
Soon it was Layton's turn to sing and Julia couldn't hold back her smile while Santana couldn't hold back her scowl. Though Santana tried to hide it as Julia's eyes flickered over to Santana every once in a while.
The song ended in another contemporary dance and Layton dipping Julia before the glee club erupted into applause, Rachel and Finn being the loudest because of their plan they had formed, but Santana, Brittany and Quinn a close second.
"Wow guys, that was beautiful. I've never seen any duet like that," Mr. Shue said as he stood up and patted both of the students on their backs before they sat down in their original seats.
"I told you that you would blow us away with your beautiful voice and your beautiful face," Santana said.
"I don't think I heard you say beautiful face yesterday," Julia teased the Latina who simply smiled at her.
"Did I not? Because I meant to. But seriously Jules, you're an incredible singer, why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know, I didn't think I was that good, I only sang in my room for Isla and my stuffed animals," Julia said as Santana giggled.
"Well if I knew any better, I would say someone will be getting a solo at regionals and maybe even nationals," Santana told the Mexican.
"Oh come on, you're getting ahead of yourself," Julia modestly replied as Kurt finally interrupted their conversation.
"As many of you know, I had a duet partner, but due to sensitivities that I will not get into at the minute, I have dissolved the partnership," Kurt said, pulling the Latinas' attention away from each other.
"Okay, so who are you going to sing a duet with?" Mr. Schue asked.
"Only the most talented member of the glee club, myself," Kurt smiled. "When you're different, when you're...special, sometimes you have to get used to being alone. I've asked a few members of the glee club as well as some Cheerios to help me out."
"How can you do a duet by yourself, that's like vocal masturbation," Santana said as Julia went into a fit of giggles beside her, ignoring the rest of what Kurt said.
Santana smiled at the girl beside her, the girl's laugh being music to her ears.
