Goodbye, For Now

"Hello?"

"Hey, how are you doing?"

"I'm okay thank you. How are you?"

"Busy at work, had to make up for being late. Thanks to you."

"Thanks to me, you got a good night's sleep which is good since you have all that work to do now."

"Heheh are you always such a smart-ass or is it just right now?"

"I can't help it. You bring out a side of me I didn't even know I had. I guess I learned from the best!"

"Auuch, there you go again. So how did the meeting with your "man" friend go?"

"It went fine, thank you for asking. Not that it's any of your concern to begin with. But I understand, it's hard not to be jealous!"

"So what are you doing right now?"

"I was actually just about to get something to eat, I haven't ate much all day and my stomach is making noises I don't even want to describe. Do you want me to get you anything?"

"I'll just eat here since I'll be getting out late. Are you going to be fine? I'll be home in about two hours."

"Don't worry, I'm fine. I actually met a sweet girl who was working at a coffee shop. She was on her way home so I asked her to join me for lunch."

"Are you talking about "A Cup of Joy" and let me guess, you met Lizzy right?"

"Wow! Impressive. I knew you were a doctor but I wasn't aware you had psychic abilities too."

"Thanks for the laugh, I needed it. But I actually have to get back to work I'll see you later on, okay?"

"I mean, I live at your house so you don't have much of a choice. Have fun at work and don't look for any more female patients, you have enough."

"Ahem, ahem... sorry! It sounded like you're jealous. I nearly choked on my water."

"Go back to work, annoying!"

After we hung up I quickly ran out of the car to Phil, who was standing there looking at me with suspicious, wondering eyes. I knew that he knew it was someone I shouldn't be talking to, or maybe it was just my consciousness getting to me. I hated all this lying and sneaking around, I really did. I felt so bad for having to lie to them, but what was I supposed to do? Not like I could just introduce everyone and they would all become best friends while I lived happily ever after with Jake. All of this? It was a nightmare!

"Sorry I took too long. It was my doctor calling asking about my arm. You know how doctors are. Are you taking your medication? Have you been cleaning your wound properly? Have you been experiencing any sudden or unexpected pain? Can you feel all your fingers? Blah blah blah, the questions never end."

"But have you?"

"Ummm yes?!"

"You're a horrible liar, I hope you know that. You have to take care of yourself and your arm. Do you know what is going to happen if you don't? You could get a horrible infection and..."

"Yes yes I'm aware Dr. Phil. Hehe get it? Dr. Phil, like the show."

The way he was looking at me, it was clear that he had no idea who Dr. Phil. was. He must have thought I was losing my mind. I really needed to get going, we did have quite a drive back to Erstonia and I didn't want to be all alone in the streets at night. If we left right now, I would make it back home in time to get my car and meet Evan. Since he insisted that he needed to follow me in his car to make sure I wasn't going to be shot at or kidnapped. He had a point, but he lived like five blocks down and plus, I was in my car.
