Access Granted

Once I entered the room, or house actually, the doors closed behind me. So, was that it? I was going to be trapped in here with no access to the outside world for the next week? Well, no wonder I was going to be safe in here. I was going to be kept like a prisoner.

"You see this right here?" He asked as he pointed to a box on the wall.

It was similar to the one he had pressed to gain access to the rest of the building.

"What is that?" I asked.

"This is your key. You will be using this to come in and out of here. Only you will have access to it, and nobody is allowed in here without your permission. So, let's say I want to come in here… You will put your finger on this button, and it will allow me to gain access to come in here. Otherwise, there is nothing entrance or exit for anybody else besides you."

As if he had to ask me twice to be allowed to come in here. He could have all the access he needed to anything he needed. "Calm the fuck down, what is wrong with you" I thought to myself. I had to get a grip of my emotions and thoughts when I was around Viktor.

"So I will be here all alone?" I asked.

"No, I will be coming to check on you very frequently. Plus you will have access to the rest of the building whenever you want. But, if you want to go anywhere outside, I just come with you. Is that clear?"

"Yes sir" I said as I put my hand on my head.

He smiled and looked at me.

"It's very hard for me to imagine you would get into any type of trouble," he said.

"Yeah well, don't let my looks fool you. I'm a lot tougher and more dangerous than I look."

"I find that hard to believe," he said while laughing.

"Well...test it out and see what happens to you."

He raised his eyebrow and looked at me while shaking his head. I just looked back at him and walked inside the room. As I was about to close the door, I smiled and said,

"I would like to have some alone time now if you don't mind. So your access to be here has expired. I'll decide when I would like for you to come back. But for now, you have to get going. And next time I call you, I would really appreciate it if you picked up your phone so I don't have to call you a hundred times."

"Wow, dangerous and rude. You must not know that those are the kind of women I like" he said as he smiled and walked away.

Oh this man was going to get me into big, big trouble.

Once Viktor was gone, I sat on the couch and just leaned back to relax. I was finally here and so far I was safe and okay. That had to count for something right? I had to make it through one day at a time, otherwise I was going to drive myself insane. Thank God there were windows to see the outside world, so that I could look outside and still feel safe on the inside. I walked up to the window and looked out into the streets. There were so many people walking around, some were alone and others were in the company of others. As I looked down at them, I felt jealous. I could hardly remember what it was like to be able to walk outside without having to worry about your life. I saw kids playing with each other, couples enjoying their coffee and families spending time together. This reminded me of the family I no longer had. This reminded me of my daughter who was now probably putting herself to sleep. It reminded me of the husband I was missing more each day. It reminded me of the life I could no longer have.

If it wasn't for the sunset, I wouldn't even know what time it was. The one thing that gave me hope was the sky. I never really been the type to appreciate every single second and thing around us. I guess that's how most people are, we take things for granted and then when they are no longer available to us, we remember to appreciate everything we once had but no longer have.
