A Gift Box

I opened the door only to see Lilly there. I had no idea she was coming over and yet there I was standing with a box in my hand looking confused. 

"Hi Lilly, I didn't know you were coming." 

"I actually invited her to come. I didn't want to tell you sooner but I am taking you to dinner so I asked Lilly to come and stay with Lilli."

"Oh! Well...that's nice." 

"How soon can you get ready? We have a reservation for eight." 

"Umm I can be done in half an hour." 

I was shocked! I had no idea any of this was happening. Of course I was excited to finally spend time alone with Jake but he just caught me by surprise. This was also a great time for me to share the pregnancy news with him as well. I'm glad that he didn't notice the box when I came in because knowing Jake he would for sure ask about it and end up ruining the whole thing. 

I put the box on top of the bed while I got dressed and fixed my makeup. I made sure to always keep my eye on it so that I wouldn't forget to get it when I got ready before we left the room. 

I looked at my phone and it was 7:35 once I finished getting ready. We would have to leave soon if we wanted to make it there on time. I put my jacket on and grabbed my purse as I entered the room where Jake and Lilli were talking to Lilly. 

"Are you ready?" Asked Jake. 

"Yeah I am. Hey Lilly, thanks for doing this." 

"Of course, anytime. You two deserve some time for yourselves. Enjoy your night and don't worry about anything." 

"If you do need anything please don't hesitate to call."

"I won't. Now you two lovebirds need to leave before you're late." 

Jake looked at me and smiled. I smiled back as he extended his arm and grabbed me by my hand. 

"Let's go!"

"Go get the car ready and I'll be right down. I forgot to grab something."

"Okay I'll be waiting in the car." 

I quickly ran to the bedroom and grabbed the box that was lying on the bed. There was no way for me to hide this without him seeing it but I would just wait to get to the restaurant before I told him. Actually… maybe I should tell him before we enter just in case it doesn't go as I planned. As soon as Jake saw me approaching the car, he got out and opened the door for me. My knees were shaking so bad!!! 

"Are you ready to go?" He asked. 

"I am! I'm actually starving. What made you want to take me to dinner tonight?" 

"Well we didn't get the chance to celebrate our marriage the way we had planned so I thought I could at least take you out for dinner."

"That's sweet of you. Thank you." 

"Can I ask you something?"

"Of course...what is it?"

"Why have you been carrying that box around with you since you got to the hotel?"

What did I tell you? Didn't I say that he was going to ask about it as soon as he got the chance? What was I supposed to do now? Do I just tell him or do I wait and do it in the middle of dinner? But God forbid I wouldn't want him choking on food from the excitement. But I can't just do it here in the middle of the car either. Oh God! I overthink stuff way too much. 

"It's a gift…"

"A gift? A gift for what?" 

"Just wait until I give it to you. Like you said our wedding got ruined so I wanted to do something nice for you."
