One thing I've come to realize is that nothing happens by coincidence, including the people we meet. There is a role for every single person that walks through your life. Some of those people will test you, some of them will use and abuse you, make you pay and cry, however, some of them will love you while others teach you a lesson. They will bring out your strengths and your weaknesses, your good and your bad, your courage and your fears. They will teach you the things you love and you hate, things you can tolerate and the things you'll reject. Some of them will make you cry while others will make you laugh. Some will shatter your heart into pieces so that others could come in and put it back together. You'll make memories with those people that you'll dread looking back on and other memories you'll never want to forget. At the end of the day, all together every single one of those people will bring out a new side of you and make you the person you are today.
As I watched the clouds come and go, the sky went from light to dark and the hands on the clock changed with each hour that flew by, before I even realized we had landed and it was time to exit the plane. I couldn't believe how fast the time had gone. I looked around and realized that they were all asleep except for me, which I was actually glad to see because that meant that I was the only one worried.
"Sweetheart, wake up were here" I said as I woke Lilli up who was leaning on my arm.
While I was waking Lilli up, Jake heard me and woke up too. He looked at me and smiled.
"Are we really in Duskwood?"
"We are!!! I can't believe it either."
"We have to call our friends as soon as we get off the plane. They are going to FREAK OUT."
"Hehe they will absolutely think you're messing around with them."
"Maybe we should just check into a hotel now and surprise them tomorrow. What do you think?"
"I think that's what we should do. I want to see their faces when we show up at their door hehe."
"That's going to be hilarious!!!"
I'll cut to the chase and tell you right away that our surprise went nothing like we expected, if anything… It was the complete opposite.
After we got off the plane and found a hotel we could stay at for the day, I knocked out. I could hardly keep my eyes open anymore and I didn't want my friends seeing me for the first time in so long while I looked like a zombie. Jake went down to the lobby with my dad, brother, sister and Lilli while I took a nap. I can honestly say that I don't remember the last time I slept that good. Being in Duskwood and knowing that the MWAF was not only locked up but thousands of miles away from me gave me the peace I needed to catch up on the sleep I've definitely been missing. I used to think that Duskwood would forever remind me of the MWAF and all the horrible memories but it didn't. Duskwood reminded me of my mom, of Evan, of giving birth to Lilli, and meeting my friends. Nanjing China reminded me of the MWAF and now I was nowhere close to that place.
Suddenly, I woke up screaming from a nightmare. I guess even though my body was in Duskwood my mind was still back in China and back to having MWAF in my life.
When I woke up I looked around to realize that I was all alone in the room and covered in cold sweat. I don't know how long I had been asleep but it must have not been long since they were all still down in the lobby. I got out of bed and walked to the restroom to wash my face and try to calm down. The restroom had a huge mirror that covered the entire wall as soon as you walked in. As I looked in the mirror, I could tell how frightened I was. Even after he was locked up and out of my life, he still had this horrible effect on me. He still managed to somehow scare me and wake me up from my sleep.
