When she said that, I realized I hadn't had it for a while now. But my cycle was crazy all the time, so it wasn't anything unusual. Which is the main reason when I didn't get it, I didn't think anything of it at all. However, now that my sister mentioned it, she was right. I had sensitive and painful breasts, nausea and vomiting, I was tired all the time, food and smell aversion, not to mention that lately my emotions have been all over the place. I took the pregnancy test and walked into the restroom. I couldn't even begin to describe how nervous and scared I was. After putting it off for more than ten minutes, I finally took it. Those three minutes were the longest of my life. I took a deep breath and turned it over. What I saw next nearly made me pass out.
I called my sister and told her to tell Evan to come to my room. As I sat there waiting for him, I felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest.
"What's wrong, my love? Are you okay?"
"Remember the day you said that I would always be the first person in your life?"
"Of course I do. Why?"
"Well, I think there is someone who will take my place soon."
"What do you mean?"
I took the pregnancy test from under the covers and handed it to him.
He looked at it, looked back at me, looked at it again and said,
"Please tell me you're not joking?"
"I'm not. Babe, I'M PREGNANT!!!"
He immediately started to cry and hugged me. I couldn't believe how excited he was. Seeing him so happy made me smile. I wasn't planning on having a baby anytime soon, we never even talked about it. But, now that it was actually happening, and as nervous and scared as I was, I was actually very, very happy too. I felt like everything that I've been through, all the tears, all the stress, all the pain and heartbreak led me exactly to where I am right now. In love, happy and now expecting a baby.
"Do you want to tell my parents?"
"Of course. I can't wait for them to find out."
We walked together back to the living room where they were sitting. As soon as my mom saw us, she looked at me and smiled.
"Is everything okay hun?"
"Can we talk to you guys for a minute? We have something we would like to share."
Before I could even sit down my sister jumped and screamed with excitement,
"AHHHHH YOU REALLY ARE PREGNANT."
My mom and dad both turned to us and their jaws dropped to the ground.
"Are you really?" My mom asked.
"Yes, I am. I just found out."
"We are going to be grandparents!!!" My dad shouted with tears in his eyes.
They all ran up to us and hugged Evan and I. It was at this moment that I thanked God for everything I had been through because I have never been happier in my life. I will never forget the day we went to our first doctor's appointment. It was the most amazing, heartfelt, special moment. Evan sat next to me holding my hand, as I laid there, waiting. The doctor looked around and within a few minutes our lives changed forever.
It was a heartbeat. The tiny little fluttering heartbeat of our baby.
Evan recorded the whole thing and I was so happy to see how excited and interested in everything he was. He made sure not to miss a single detail. He asked questions, listened to the doctors advice, and made sure I was not nervous for a single minute. He never left my side. Without me knowing, Evan sent my friends the recording of the little heartbeat with the text that said "A little new baby on the way. Hope you guys can show your love and support for your friend." I had no idea that he did that, I was actually very surprised when I found out that he did.
