"Hey!!! You okay? You were gone there for a minute, did you hear anything I said?"
"Huh? What?? Sorry I totally got lost in my mind. What were you saying?"
"I said you should eat something before we leave. I do have a whole day planned out for us. Remember?"
"Yes, of course. How could I forget?"
The truth is I had totally forgotten all about that. I didn't know what to think about first as I had so many things going on in my head like Jake, Phil, Silas, Evan, Richy, the man without a face, Michael, Alan... Never in my entire life has my world revolved around so many men, and I didn't know which one I was more confused and scared about. I look over at Evan, who is sitting there looking at me with a concerned yet confused face.
"Are you going to eventually start eating or?"
"Oh! Yeah, sorry. I will right now."
"I really wish I could see everything that's going on in that beautiful head of yours."
"Trust me when I tell you, that's the last place you want to be in any organ of mine."
I realized a little too late just how wrong that sounded. Evan started to laugh and my whole face went from pale white from vomiting to a shade of red I'm sure I've never seen before. I don't remember the last time I was that embarrassed in my life. But I couldn't help laughing too when I saw how hard he was laughing.
"Okay, okay get your mind out of the gutter!!! I didn't mean it the way it came out."
"I didn't even realize what you said, until I saw how red your face got. You're the one who needs to get your mind out of the gutter. Hehehe nasty!"
After we eat, we both get dressed and ready. I didn't know where he was taking me so I put on something casual but cute just in case. After all, better safe than sorry right? We sit in the car as he drives to the unknown place. I should have figured it out as soon as I saw it, but I didn't. Not until it was too late. We were at the lake! The lake that sent me right down the memory lane of Silas.
I didn't want to be there, I mean it reminded me of him, and he was gone. But how could I look at Evan who drove all this way, took the day off, and wanted to surprise me that the lake he had brought me too reminds me of another man. I decided to keep it to myself and remain quiet. No matter what I did, whether I was at the lake or not, nothing was going to bring Silas back. Instead of looking at the lake as a negative memory, I decided to turn it into a positive one, as I'm sure he would have wanted me to.
I didn't want to remember the horrible memories every time I looked back on this lake, or even the city, I wanted to remember all the good times. So, that's exactly what I did! We spent the whole day doing things. We walked around, skipped rocks across the water, Evan picked flowers up for me and made it into a bouquet, he sang! He was amazing at it. I guess talent runs in his family.
We even hiked up this little hill which didn't end up being so little since I was tired by the time we reached the top. The view from the top was beautiful, far in the distance to one side I could see the city and the other side was covered in fields of flowers and a scenery which was too good to be true. The way the sun was leaking behind the clouds made it seem like the gates of heaven were open and we got the chance to see inside.
He surprised me with a boat ride across the whole lake which I have never done before. I must say, I was a little nervous at first since my fear of getting eaten by a crocodile was kicking in full gear, but after I calmed down it was so relaxing and graceful. By the time we finished at the lake, it was around six in the evening and I was hungry. I guess doing things all day really opens up your appetite. About a ten minute walk from the lake was a small family owned restaurant, so we decided to walk instead of taking the car. It would have been a much shorter drive, but the view and the fresh air was worth the wait for food. As we walked to the restaurant, Evan looked at me and asked something I never expected him to ask.
