Facing Her...

As if my story wasn't long enough and as if the way things ended were simple and easy. I had struggled for way too long and been through way too much to still feel like for some reason, things didn't where they did. I still had some work to do, even though I didn't know what.

I was tired of hospitals and police stations and seeing people who have done nothing but cause me harm and pain.

Yet...here I was once again.

I walked into the police station with a thousand different thoughts running through my head. Out of all those thoughts, the reality of what it actually was never once crossed my mind.

"Hi... is there a way I can talk to Sheriff Dale Burnham?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'll go get him. Give me a second."

I sat down on the chair waiting for him. All the flashbacks and memories of the time I had to come here came rushing to me like a thousand waves all at once pulling me deep underwater.

"Are you Madisyn?" I heard a man's voice ask.

"Yes I am. My mom must have told you I was coming."

"I was expecting you, follow me."

I got up and walked next to him to the back of the police station. I promise you, a couple of times I couldn't feel my legs and I thought I was going to fall and embarrass myself.

"I know you're nervous, don't be. I'll be there with you the entire time. If you want to be alone, I will let you be alone with her but I want you to know I'll be right outside and watching through the glass the entire time."

"Thank you, I appreciate that. I don't know how to feel, honestly. I just don't understand why she wants to see me. If anything I should have been the one asking to see her. But, no point in going back now."

"Maybe she feels horrible about what she did and wants to apologize?"

"We can only hope so."

"Well, whenever you're ready to go in just let me know."

I took a few quick breaths and nodded to the officer that I was ready to go in. He quickly opened the door and I walked in to face the women who had made my life a living hell for nine days. To my surprise she was a lot older than I had expected her to be. I guess she was expecting for the police officer to walk in there alone and tell her that I didn't want anything to do with her because when she looked up and saw me, she was in full shock.

"Don't act like you're surprised to see me!" I exclaimed.

"You really are naive aren't you?"

"Excuse me??"

"What?!? You were expecting to come in here and receive some kind of apology from me? Well, you're not getting one!"

"I wasn't actually expecting anything good or normal from you. Normal people don't take other women's babies!!!"

"Yeah, normal women don't kill other women's kids either!!!"

"I'm sorry...what???"

"DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I AM TALKING ABOUT..."

"HEY, LOWER YOUR VOICE DON'T YELL AT HER. YOU'RE THE ONE UNDER ARREST NOT HER" shouted the police officer.

"SHE KILLED MY SON BUT SHE'S NOT ARRESTED. DO YOU WANT TO TELL ME WHY MR.OFFICER???"

Mr. Dale Burnham looked at me without saying anything. I looked back at him not knowing what to say. I wanted to say that I didn't do it. I wanted to say that she was mistaking me for someone else. But, now that she said that I knew exactly who she was. The mother of the man who broke into my house when they shot my parents. The same man that wanted to hurt my daughter had it not been for Jake coming when he did. That "kid" she was talking about was the man I shot at my parents house.
