30 Seconds

This was the moment I realized how wrong I might have been and that I was trying to protect the wrong person. As I carefully opened my eyes in hopes that there was no damage I saw glass everywhere and I was bleeding. But I was the last thing I was worried about, I just wanted to see Jake. He was completely covered in glass and bleeding so much. I couldn't even tell where the blood was coming from. I looked around and noticed that whoever that man was, was no longer there. However, I couldn't be sure that he wasn't hiding and would pop out again when we least expected him. 

"Madisyn, are you okay?" Jake screamed.

"Yeah I'm okay I think. I'm just bleeding badly from my arm and neck. Are you okay?" 

"My head hurts really bad. I have blood everywhere." 

"We need to get out of this car," I said. 

Just as I opened the door to get out to go to Jake's side I heard Jake scream "Madisyn no wait don't…"

He must have been scared out of his mind. He was probably thinking that whoever did this was still around and would hurt me the minute I stepped out of the car. Well, he wasn't too wrong. 

I got out of the car and the minute I stepped foot outside I saw a bomb by the front tire counting down, it was down to thirty seconds. 

"JAKEEEEE" I screamed. 

Thirty seconds between our lives and death… that's all we had before we blew up to pieces. 30 seconds… 29, 28, 27, 26…

I ran to Jake's side and screamed as loud as I could. 

"JAKE GET OUT THE CAR THERE IS A BOMB." 

Why the fuck was he not getting out?? What the hell was he thinking sitting there? 

"My seatbelt is stuck. MADISYN RUN...GET OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW!!!"

"JAKE NOOOO YOU'RE GOING TO DIE." 

"MADISYN!!!! RUNNNN."

How much longer could we have? What, we were probably down to the last ten seconds if even that. I couldn't just leave him, there was no way. I ran to the other side and grabbed the bomb. 5...4...3…

I was never good at throwing things no matter how hard I tried. I had strength but not the strength I needed to throw this bomb as far as I could away from us. In the last few seconds, I threw the bomb in the opposite direction and prayed to God it was far enough not to kill us. 

Just as I threw it, it didn't even reach the ground yet when it exploded.

This was the type of shit that you watched in movies when the bomb explodes and people get away alive within the last millisecond. I was alive, almost deaf but alive. My ears were ringing so bad that I felt like I couldn't hear anything and not to mention the killer headache that throbbed so bad I felt like the explosion had just gone off in my head. I closed my eyes from the pain inside my head. It was hurting me so bad I could barely see anything in my eyes. All I saw was that bright flame that filled the air all around us. 

As I got up, I managed to make my way to the car where Jake was. 

At this point there must have been at least fifty people all around us looking. I hadn't even noticed the people until now. I saw people running towards me to make sure that I was okay. 

"Are you okay? What happened? Are you here alone?" A man asked. 

"No, my boyfriend is stuck in the car. His seat belt is jammed. Please help him."

The man and a couple of other people ran towards the car. Within seconds, I noticed that something was wrong by the look of their faces. Immediately I started crying and calling out his name.
