They pushed me inside the police car, and I cried out as I saw my baby, who was going to be all alone without a single parent in her life.
"Please take her to her grandparent's house. They live at 6774 West Cambridge Road. Please just take her there," I shouted as the tears rolled down my eyes.
As the car drove away, I cried out.
Once we arrived at the police station, one of the officers grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side. I saw him adjusting something on his uniform, and he turned the radio and the video microphone transmitter off.
"Listen to me very carefully right now. We are taking you in for questioning. When they ask you what happened, you are going to say that you don't remember anything. You will not tell a single soul of what just happened in there. No matter what anybody asks and what anybody says, you will say you don't remember anything. We got your back, don't worry. Just answer all the questions they ask you, and whatever happened just now... you leave that part out."
I didn't know much about laws, but I was sure that this was illegal.
After all, it doesn't matter what the reason is… I killed a man.
I went in for questioning, and when I tell you this was the shortest amount of time I had spent in the police station, I mean it.
"Is it true that you saw your parents get killed in front of you?"
"Yes, it is."
"And where was your daughter at the time."
"Locked in a closet."
"Is it also true that these two men were the ones who broke into your house and killed your parents?" An officer asked as he showed me pictures of the two men.
"Yes, officer, it is."
"Do you know who these men are?"
"I have never seen them in my life. But I'm assuming they are the same ones who stabbed Phil after asking him where I was and saying, and I quote, "How they were going to make me pay."
"Can you tell me what happened? At least what you remember?"
"I don't remember anything. The only thing that I somewhat remember is seeing my parents dead and looking frantically all over the house for my daughter. I just wanted to make sure she was okay."
"Did you see or hear anybody else in your house?"
"No, just the two men. They were both on the floor of my daughters room covered in blood when I got there."
"You're free to go. Your daughter is at her grandparents' house. The address you told the other officer. You can go see her now."
I don't need to remind you that I was a mess. I was in tears crying the entire time. I had just buried my husband not too long ago, and now both of my parents were dead. Not to mention that something strange was going on. I mean, come on, I got more questioned and interrogated when someone took my daughter from my house in the middle of the night.
I was completely heartbroken and distraught
All of this felt like a nightmare. It all just happened so quickly and unexpectedly that it still doesn't feel real. How did this happen? How did my life go from being somewhat back to normal and me leaving home with both of my parents alive to coming home ? Now I was really all alone with Lilli.
I was crying and shaking so hard that I could hardly catch a breath. An officer came to me and gave me some water.
"I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. But, I'm curious. How did your daughter end up in a closet all by herself?"
