You woke a few hours later to Sam shaking you awake. You set up, dazed.
"I shouldn't have come." She was saying. You rubbed your eyes. "It was a bad idea."
"Why?" You said in a sleepy yawn.
"None of the other muggle-borns came to school this year." She sighed and plopped down on your bed. "And I was the stupid one who thought I would be fine."
"What are you going on about?" You asked her, laying back down.
"(Y/n)!" She wined, "I am the only idiot who didn't go into hidding. I should have gone. Sabastien told me to. And I didn't!" Tears weald up in her eyes. "I didn't want to believe that the Death Eaters had taken over the school."
"So, why don't you just go home." You suggested, sympathicly.
"I can't stay here." She said as tears started to fall down her cheeks. "But I don't know where to go. I can't go home. I'm a muggle-born and I.... I haven't done that muggle-born what ever it was called that the Ministry is making us all do."
"Calm down." You whispered sitting back up. "Let me think." She stopped making noise and wiped the tears away with her sleeve. "You can apparate from hogsmead." You said quietly. "Sneak out and head there."
"How?" Sam asked. "There are Death Eaters garding the grounds. And where do I go?"
"Any where. You go as far away as you can. And I can get you passed the Death Eaters." You assured her. "My parents are among them, remember. Not to mention I'm also dating the son of one of them." You still hadn't told anyone that Draco was part of the group as well. As far as anyone needed to know, Draco was just the son of one.
"Won't that get you into trouble?" Sam asked, concerned.
"I'll be fine. Here, take this." You handed her the crystal ball that Draco had given you a few years back. "Do you remember how it works?" You asked. She nodded. "Good, once you are safe, let me know. But don't stay in one place unless you go abroad." Sam nodded again and took the ball. You picked up her purse and casted the Undetectable Extension Charm on it. "This will hold everything." You handed her the bag and told her to pack it. "When you're done, wait here. I'll be back."
You left the dorm and found your way to the Slytherin common room. Just as you went to knock on the wall where the entrance would be, it opened.
"Aaaaa." A first year student said startled and stood in the pathway.
"I won't stop you if you go get Malfoy for me." You said. "I don't even care what you're doing." The kid looked a little shocked mixed with confusion but agreed. He reentered the common room and the door closed. It wasn't too much of a wait when he came back with an annoyed Draco.
"It's the middle of the night!" Draco said to the kid as the door reopened.
"I know and I'm sorry, but..." He replied.
"Draco," you said grabbing his attention. "I asked him to get you." Draco looked at you confused.
"(Y/n), what are you doing here at this hour?" Draco asked.
"I need your help. Well, Sam needs your help." You told him, taking his hand and pulling him into the empty corridor. "As you know, Sam is not like us." You said still pulling Draco along. "And she's scared. I need you to help me get her to Hogsmead so she can apparate to freedom." And you explained how Sam thought the school would be a safe place to be but discovered that the school was full of Death Eaters. Draco understood and agreed to help.
"Just one question?" Draco said as the two of you got the Hufflepuff common entrance. "Why do you need me? I mean, none of the Death Eaters would stop you."
"Because the rest of the staff would, and if I'm being escorted by you, a prefect, then they wouldn't say anything. Or at least, they never have." You explained tapping the code on the barles. The door opend and you entered the common room. Draco fallowed you.
"Wow, this is a long path." Draco said amused.
"Oh, that's right." You said realizing that this was Draco's first time into the Hufflepuff common room. "It is." You agreed with him as you reached the the main room. "Wait here while I go get Sam." You said as Draco looked around. With everyone still sleeping, he could peruse the space without being bombarded with stupid questions like, "What are you doing here?" Or "What do you want?" Most of the students in the school still didn't like Draco much after all.
You entered your dorm room and saw Sam sitting on her bed. All her stuff was now packed away into her bag. "Ready to go?" You asked her. Nodding, Sam stood and left with the room with you.
"Now, don't be angry with me." You said as you shut the door behind you. "But Draco is going to help us." Sam looked Alarmed. "Don't worry." You said. "I keep telling you, don't I? Draco isn't the bad guy." You reached Draco and the three of you left the Hufflepuff common room. As you made your way through the corridor, sure enough, Filtch found you.
"Act sick" you whispered to Sam. It wasn't hard for her. She was already sweating from nerves.
"Students out of bed?" Filtch said in his normal tone of power.
"It's alright Mr. Filtch." Draco said calmly. "This girl wasn't feeling good and her friend was just taking her to the hospital wing."
"Is that so?" He asked suspiciously.
"Yes." You said, "She woke me not too long ago." Filtch eyeballed Sam. "Can't you tell? She's covered in sweat."
"Alright then." Filtch said and let you pass. "You're lucky you're with a prefect." He said as the three of you continued on.
