The next day came, and you were told that your hurbology class was canceled due to all the snow. It had snowed fairly hard last the night before and left you practically snowed in.
You were sitting in the libary working on some homework when you heard your fellow Hufflepuffs talking about Potter. It was ridiculous that they all thought that Potter could be that cold hearted. The whole school thought the same thing except for a few students and most of the teachers. Potter and his friends thought it was Draco Malfoy. You didn't think it was him though. He got upset when he found out you had been tricked into taking that dragons breath position. You were getting upset with all the noice in the libary and decided to leave.
As you walked down the passage way to the Great Hall, you heard peeves yelling. Something about not being safe. You truned around and headed back that way. Along with most of the school, you saw Potter standing over Justin Finch-Fletchley and nearly headless nick, now a dark smoky color, floating in mid air. There was no way he hurt them, was there? Maybe Potter knew something but wasn't telling anyone, not even his close friends.
Later that day in Charms, you were talking with Sam. She was saying that she got a protective charm. Most of the students were doing that now. You didn't understand why though. If they really worked, then everyone would have one to protect themselves from wizards and witches that would cause harm. Maybe they worked to an extent, but noone knew what was attacking the students. How was a charm going to help if they didn't know what to make the charm for? You didn't want to burst Sam's bubble by telling her this. Having the charm made her feel better. When class ended, Draco caught up to you.
"Do you still have that niffler necklace I gave you last Christmas?" He asked you. You would have been mad at him for asking in front of Sam, if she haded already known. You told her a while back that he gave it to you when you told her you liked him.
"Yeah why?" You asked confused.
"Can I borrow it?" Draco was acting strange. What did he want with it?
"Why?" You asked cautiously.
"Becuase I need it, I'll give it back in a few days." He sounded desperate.
"Yeah, ok" you said plopping your books in his arms. You reached around your neck and pulled the necklace off. You hadn't taken it off sence you put it on. Talking the books back, you handed the peice of jewlery over. It felt strange not having it around your neck anymore.
"Thanks" Draco said before taking off.
"What was that all about?" Sam asked.
"Who knows? He's always acting wired." The two of you walked down the corridor to the Hufflepuff common room to droped off your books before dinner.
As dinner was talking place, you noticed that Potter and his friends were sitting alone. Even his own house was afraid of Potter. They should have had more trust for him then that. They knew Potter better then any of the other houses did. They should know that one of his best friends was a muggle-born. It made you angry that people were so cold towards someone. They were acting as if Potter was a deceased rat that needed to be condemned. That's what they were doing to him; condemning him. They didn't have any proof. You could see why Potter and his two freinds thought it was Draco that was the heir of Slytherin though. Draco was a pureblood who hated muggle borns. He even had said they were next. But you didn't believe either of them could be it.
The days grow closer to the holiday vacation. The Weasley twins were acting like the idiots they were, as they yelled down the corridors,
"Make way for the heir of Slytherin." You thought it was mean of them. That is, until you noticed Potter smiling. They thought is was ludicrous that Potter was the heir. Draco, on the other hand, would get upset when he saw the twins acting like Potter was infact the heir.
Fried and Gorge Weasley were doing it again the last day of classes before the break. Draco looked at the two of them with a 'stop it' look. You were walking to class with him.
"Those stupid Weasleys," Draco mumbled under his breath. "Why would they think Potter was the heir?"
"You don't think its Potter then?" You asked opening the door to Charms.
"No, I don't." Draco said coldly. "He's just too nice to be sicking a monster on any one." You agreed with him of course, but what was wrong with being nice?
The next morning the other students going home for the holiday, boarded the Hogwarts Express. Sam, Kathy and Sebastian were going home. Most of the school was going home. Potter and his friends stayed at school. They were planning on using the poloyjuice position on Draco soon.
A few days into the brake, you saw Draco standing outside. What he was doing, you weren't sure. He was just standing there. His friends were just inside the door.
"Hay? What is he doing?" You asked Grabbe and Goyle, as they jumped.
"Don't know." The two of them said together. It was snowing out. He must have been cold.
"How long had he been there?" You watched Draco hopeing he would trun and come back inside.
"A while." Goyle replied, watching him too. You pushed passed them, walking between the two of them. The snow was deep but you walked in Draco's tracks.
"Malfoy?" You said when you got close. He was looking into the distance, and didn't answer you. You fought your way through the snow to stand in front of him. His eyes moved to you.
"Are you ok?" You placed your hands on his shoulders. Draco smiled and nodded. His nose was bright red.
"Come on, let's go back inside." You took Draco's hand and pulled him inside.
