You and Draco woke the next morning and said good bye to your aunt. Draco loaded the truck into the fireplace after throwing floo powder in. You let him guide you into the flames with your eyes closed. You were still afraid of fire and Draco knew it. When you got back to the Malfoy manner, you stepped out of the fireplace into Draco's room. He had told you to call out for his fireplace to avoid going into the drawing room, which would most likely have many people. You pulled the trunk from the fireplace, and sat on Draco's bed to wait for him. A few seconds later, he stepped into the room.
"You ready to go downstairs?" Draco asked you. You shook your head. You didn't fancy the idea of meeting the rest of the Death Eaters that the Malfoy family associated with. Draco took your hand and led you downstairs anyways. There were a lot of people in the drawing room, including both your mom and dad. You saw the Crabbe, Goyle and Perkinson families as well. The other people in the room you didn't recognize.
"Ah, Draco." Lucius said, beckoning him over. Draco, stilling holding your hand, pulled you along to his father's side. You looked around the room again. Everyone was now facing you. "You guys got back just in time."
"In time for what?" You asked.
"To meet our Dark Lord." Lucius said, enthused. You gave him a dirty look, just as the drawing room doors opend. You looked over to see Dameon and a man, who must have been his father, walk in. You looked at Draco and tighten your grip on his hand.
"I won't let him near you." Draco whispered in your ear. Dameon and his father joined the other guests, just as the doors opened again. A snake slithered through.
"Nagini." You heard a raspy voice hiss. A creature that looked like a man with grayish skin walked in after the snake. He had slits where his nose should have been and a lipless mouth. The Death Eaters in the room all bowed. Draco and you looked at each other confused, then you and him were both forced down in a bow too. Someone was holding you down. When they let go, you looked back to see that it was your father who had pushed you down. Lucius had done it to Draco.
"This must me your son, Lucius." The man said, as his eyes fell onto Draco.
"Yes, my Lord." Lucius said obediently.
"And you must be, (y/n)." The man looked at you.
"Yes, my Lord." Came the voice of your father.
"You have grown up in the time I was away." The man hissed and truned away to face the others. You looked at Draco as if to ask him if he knew who this man was. He shrugged his shoulders. The man walked around the room talking. You weren't listening. You wanted to leave. You wanted to go back to your room upstairs.
"My faithful Death Eaters," The man spoke. You figured that he must be Him. "The time grows close. We will continue to lie low for the time being." Draco looked at his father.
"Ask him if we can go." You told Draco, seeing that the other kids were leaving. Draco nodded and whispered to his father, who waved a hand in dismissal. Draco, who had never let go of your hand, pulled you from the room.
"I want nothing to do with all of this!" You said, upset. "It was a Death Eater that killed Kathy! How can your father still want to be a part of all this?"
"It's the power." Draco replied. You got up to his room and saw a barn owl sitting on the window seal. You let go of Draco's hand and opened the window. The owl flew in and droped two envelopes onto Draco's desk before flying back out.
"Our letters." Draco said picking his up and opening it. "I'm a prefect." Draco said smiling, after a few seconds.
"That's awesome!" You ran over to him and hugged him. "That's a good thing." You pulled back and looked him in the eyes. "You won't abuse it, will you?"
"I would say no, but you know I probably will." Draco admitted.
"Well, at least you're being truthful." Weeks went by, and before you knew it, you where headed to the train. You had found a seat with Sam and Sebastian. You wanted to stay with Draco, but as he had prefect duties to tend to, you couldn't very well do that. About an hour later, you head Draco's voice comming from the hall.
"Manners Potter, or I'll have to give you a detention." Draco said and you stepped into the hall."You see I, unlike you, have been made a prefect. Which means that I, unlike you, means I have the power to hand out punishments.
"Yeah, but you, unlike me, are a git. So, get out and leave us alone." Potter said. You smiled at this. Draco derived it.
"Tell me, how does it feel being second best to Weasley, Potter?" Draco asked.
"Shut up Malfoy!" Granger yelled.
"I seem to have touched a nerve." Draco said in his drawling voice. He touched a nerve alright. You were glaring at him; however, he didn't notice you standing there. "Well, just watch yourself, Potter because I'll be dogging your foorsteps incase you step out of line."
"Get out!" You heard the voice to Granger. Draco, Crabbe and Goyle turned to walk away from Potter and his group of friends.
"Draco?" You said calmly. He truned around and saw you moving towards him. He told the boys to go on ahead and spoke to you.
"Are you going to yell at me?" Draco asked as if he was afraid you were going to.
"No," You said in a sigh. "It does me no good. I just thought you should know that, that's not how a prefect acts." You reminded him, and walked back into the carpartment with Sam and Sebastian. Once the train stopped, people started climbing off. You saw Draco pushing his was threw the crowd, pushing some second years out of the way. You shook your head, and climbed into the carriage your friends had gotten into. You got to the school and sat down at the Hufflepuff table. You watched the sorting and then ate the feast. You kept glancing at Draco, who was to busy being himself to notice. Dumbledore had told the school, once everyone had a chance to eat, that Professor Grumblyplank would be taking over Care of Magical Creatures. He also introduced your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Umbridge.
"Uhem Uhem," Umbridge interrupted Dumbledore's speech. Noone, to your knowledge, had ever done that. Dumbledore sat down and let Umbridge speak. "Thank you, headmaster, for those kind words of welcome." She cleared her thought agian and continued. "Well, it is lovely to be back at Hogwarts, I must say. And to see such happy little faces looking back at me." You looked around the tables. Not many students looked very happy. "I'm very much looking forward to getting to know you all, and I'm sure we'll be very good friends." She gave you a feeling of dread. Umbridge cleared her thought again.
"The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vidal importance. The rare gifts, with which you were born, may come to nothing if not nurtured and honed by careful instruction." You looked over at Draco. She kept talking, but you had stopped listening. Her speech was so long that your attention had drifted off. When she was done talking, the students all headed to their houses. You thought about going to the star room to meet up with Draco, but then remembered that he had to show the first years the way to the Slytherin house so, you went up to your dorm and went to bed. You would catch up with Draco in the morning.
