"That dragon is not to stay here."

"Thorin, don't be absurd, Bow is of no danger to-"

"He is still a dragon, all dragons have the same wants!"

"He saved our lives! How can you possibly say that!"

"Get rid of him. That is an order."

"Well it is an order I don't intend to take!"

The Company stared between Thorin and I, it was difficult to tell who was angrier at the other, both of our faces were flushed and we were breathing heavily.

"Disobeying your King is punishable by-"

"So draw your sword and strike me down." I spat. "Because I will not send Bow away, especially not because of your greed."

Thorin's expression became an ugly snarl. "You think I won't? You think that I will not lay a hand on you?"

"No, you won't." I folded my arms, bringing myself up to my full height. "Because despite it all, Thorin Oakenshield, you still care."

His hand rested on his sword, and I saw all the others tense, and for a moment, even my own belief wavered.

"No, I don't care." He growled. "Not for you, or anything apart from protecting our home and that gold. Which is why I told you to kill the dragon in the first place! But now he is too old for that, so be rid of it!"

His words hurt, but I wasn't ready to admit why. "If you want Bow gone, Thorin, then I will go to. Judging by your comment anyway, I can see I am no longer welcome."

I didn't bother waiting for the King to reply, storming away, ignoring all the terrified looks from the Company.

"Wait!"

"No. I have no further reason to listen to you." I snapped, entering the larger hall where Bow was waiting.

"You will do as your King demands!" Thorin grabs my arm, turning me roughly.

An angry hiss echoes through the hall as Bow steps forward, causing Thorin to back off quiclkly.

Bow's head came low, his gold eyes piercing into Thorin's. I stood resolute next to him, glaring at Thorin.

"If you tell me, right now, that Bow can stay, I will stay." I say slowly to the King. "But if you say he has to go, you will not see me again."

I saw Bow's gaze flick to me for a moment, his eyes concerned, before returning to the still very angry Thorin.

Thorin looked as if he was thinking on what next to say. "You cannot keep the beast forever."

"I am not keeping him!" I roared, surprising everyone, as the others had followed. "Bow is my friend, if he wishes to go, he may go! But I will not abandon him just because you demand it!"

"So you have more loyalty to a dragon than to your own King?" Thorin's glare was cold, filled with emotions I didn't dare try to name.

"At least he isn't acting like an animal." I growled.

Thorin took a step forward and Bow growled again, making him stop. His eyes flick between me and Bow.

"Fine." He spat. "Have it your way. You are hereby banished from my kingdom! By pain of death!"

I froze momentarily, staring at him. I could feel the tension in Bow's body, see the shocked looks on the Company's faces.

My eyes filled with tears, but I wiped them away angrilly.
