As Queen there were certain responsibilities that you were expected to uphold, and at first, others believed you weren't up to the task, after all, you had always been the quiet one, the one that was happy to spend the day at the back of a room, unnoticed.

Or, almost unnoticed.

Thranduil had been drawn to you since the day he saw you, and slowly, he brought you out of your shell and got you comfortable with talking in front of others. He thought he would have to help with solving problems too, but you quickly showed that that was a quality you didn't need to work on.

It was hard to tell who was more in love with who, and it came of no surprise to anyone when Thranduil asked for your hand.

Many believed you weren't up to being queen.

And you quickly proved them wrong.

The doubters were stunned to watch as you and Thranduil ruled as equals. He rarely made a decision without you and you without him. He valued your opinion above all others.

It was after a long day that you retired early from the courts, Thranduil giving you a knowing smile, that it was the first time it showed it was getting to you.

You sank into the chair in front of your mirror and looked at your tired self and tried to stifle the yawn that over took you.

It took a lot of effort for you to appear as you did, the reclusive nature still desiring to come through.

And Thranduil understood that and had made sure you had time to yourself as often as possible.

But you also understood what you had bee getting into when you had married him.

Stifling another yawn, you slip the crow from your head and rest it on the table, and before you really knew it, your arms were folded and cushioning your head.

Gentle hands on your shoulders awoke you.

"Just a little longer." You mumble tiredly.

"I'm sure you would be more comfortable in bed my leutha." Thranduil's voice says quietly in your eat.

You stir and open your eyes, seeing Thranduil watching you with kind eyes in the mirror, his hands slowly moving up and down your shoulders.

You yawn. "I don't remember falling asleep here my sinthe."

He smiles as you sit, his fingers trailing up to your hair. "Clearly while you were still undoing your hair."

You stifle another yawn and hum in appreciation as his fingers carefully worked to undo the braids and ties that had been holding your hair in place. He didn't really need to watch what he was doing, he had done it so many times that he had memorised where you put each piece each morning, but still he did, carefully paying each piece special attention until all your hair was out and he could gently brush his fingers through.

He watched your eyes close as he began a gentle massage of your scalp. "You did well today my leutha, I don't think the council expected you to come out with such a sensible answer."

You snort. "Well our council are all idiots. I don't know how you out up with them before I came along."

"With great restraint."

You giggle and tilt your head back to look at him. "I didn't realise restraint was part of your qualities."

He smiled and leant down, hovering his lips above yours. "It's not." He said in no more than a whisper and traps you in a brief but hungry kiss.

Thranduil pulled away, his fingers now trailing along the material of your gown. "I do adore this gown on you my leutha, but I hardly think you should sleep in it."

"It is awfully tight around the middle." You said absently, although not unaware of tone in his voice. "It never used to be."

"It looks arddunnie to me." His voice was still quiet as he watched you stand, starting to undo the laces at the back.

You smile at him. "Would you care to help me husband? I would to have to call for my maid at this hour."

Thranduil steps forward without hesitation, carefully pushing your fingers out of the way. You allow him, as again, he had done this many times before.

You sigh with content as his cool fingers brush against your skin.

His lips brush your ear. "My leutha, what would I do without you?"

You wrap an arm up around his neck as you lean back into him. "Probably go mad, my sinthe. Or grumpy."

He snorts and nuzzles into your neck. "I don't think grumpy is part of my qualities."

You grin widely. "You clearly don't pay attention when you don't get your way then."

He gives a playful growl, causing you to giggle, and he starts to kiss your neck, quickly distracting you from much else.

He kisses his way back to your ear. "I always get my way though."

Your felt your gown drop and your left almost completely bare before him.

A shudder goes through you, even though you wanted to, tonight you were very tired.

"I am so tired Thranduil..." You mumble, even as your body spoke of other things.

He kisses your temple lightly. "I know my leutha, but tonight I only intend to take care of you."

With that, you weren't going to argue.

Later that night, you stirred restlessly in bed. Something had disturbed your sleep.

A rumble of thunder sounded around the room.

You whimper and instantly seek Thranduil, who's arm was already wrapping around you, having been disturbed by your movement.

"It is alright, my leutha, it is just a storm." He spoke tiredly into your hair.

"Why must they always sound so angry?" You ask as you press your bare form as tightly against his as possible.

"Because even nature is allowed to be angry." He kissed the top of your head. "Go back to sleep."

There was another rumble of thunder, louder this time.

"Thranduil..." You whimper.

Both his arms wrap around you. "What am I to you?"

You were trembling in his arms, but you focused it out, drowning the storm out with the thought of Thranduil.

"My sinthe. My light."

"And you to me?"

"Your leutha. Your life."

"And so it will always be, from the moment I met you to the day we pass from this earth together. Nothing will harm you while I am here, let me guide you from the shadows, my leutha, only light shall find you and fill you. Do not fear the dark and it's rumblings."

The words calmed you, as they always, and you found yourself settling into his tight embrace.

"Thank you my sinthe." You mutter against him, finding sleep taking you quickly.

Thranduil kisses your head lightly again. "Anything for you my leutha, my love, my Queen."

Those were the last words you heard that night as you finally found sleep again.
