We didn't have time to discuss what had happened, a bargemen showing up and distracting Thorin completely from the outrage that was about to happen.

But the entire way into Laketown, I could feel his anger beating at both Dwalin and I.

I was incredibly uncomfortable and what was worse, I was starting to feel very sick, and I had little doubt that it was due to the wound in my leg, but I remained silent, fearing that if I said anything, it would be met with harsh words.

I had never seen Thorin so mad before.

Inside Bard's home, Oin checked over my leg and I watched the tension between Thorin and Dwalin, not comfortable enough to talk here but clearly both wanting to.

Fili sat next to me.  "Looks like Dwalin really stuffed that one up."

"Tell me about it."  I grunt and then whince as Oin started to stitch the wound closed.  "It's going to end in a fight, you can practically taste it."

"Well, you are his only child."  Fili looked at me worriedly.  "You can hardly blame him."

"And it's Dwalin."  I said, frowning.  "Surely he would prefer Dwalin over some stuck up noble."

Fili gives a small smile.  "I thinks it's more the fact that Dwalin hasn't discussed it with him first, and, again, you are his only child.  He's going to be protective no matter what and no matter who."

I huff, Kili bringing three bowls of food over, handing one to me and one to Fili before sitting with us.

Oin finished with my leg.  "Thank you Oin."

"Take it easy on it lass."  He said.  "It'll be sore for some time."

He moves away, leaving the three of us.  "Well, at least we're almost there."

Fili and Kili share a look but remain silent.

As it turned out, my leg was a lot worse than what any of us were prepared for, it collapsing on me as we tried to steal weapons from the armoury.

Still, given housing by the Master of the Lake-town, Thorin and Dwalin did not talk, seemingly intent on ignoring each other.

By morning, Fili and Kili were helping me walk, my face an ashen gray.  I wasn't going to say it outloud, but I was terrified it pretty much clear to everyone that the arrow had been poisoned.

And then Thorin told me stay.

"No-"

"Diena, please.  I need you to stay here."

"We've talked about this for so long-"

"I know."  He grips my shoulders tightly, his eyes shining.  "But you are wounded.  I would sending you to your death should I let you continue."

Fili and Kili shared a look.

"We will stay with her Uncle."  Fili steps forward.  "She will need-"

"You belong with the company."  Thorin said quickly, looking at them.

But they both shake their heads.  "No, we need to be with Diena.  We were still being followed."

Dwalin steps forward.  "I will stay."

Thorin's gaze darkened on Dwalin and I couldn't help but swallow, looking between them.

"No."  Thorin said firmly.  "You have done enough."  He looks back at Fili and Kili.  "Fine, but you boys be careful."

"Thorin-"
