Today, you were a bundle of nerves and excitement.

Why?

Because today was the Spring festival in Hobbiton and you had made a promise to yourself.

You were going to have your first kiss tonight.

You were tired of simply listening to your friends tell you of their relationships and their experiences. You figured it was about time you got your own tales to tell.

So as Spring had approached, you made that promise.

Your best friend, Bilbo, had simply rolled his eyes when you told him.

"All you have to do is ask Y/N." He said with a cheeky grin, causing you to smack his arm.

"Don't tease Bilbo, this is a serious matter."

You had technically made the same promise to yourself last year too, but with Bilbo's sudden disappearance, you had practically been too distraught to notice the festival actually taking place.

And you gave him exactly what for when he returned.

He had just smiled tiredly at your rant at him, complaining that he could have at least left a note, and it was some time before you even drew breath to allow him to explain.

And you still weren't overly sure about the adventure he told you.

Wizards, dwarves, trolls, dragons? It all seemed a little unbelievable, especially when Bilbo seemed so alive and well in front of you.

Well, mostly. You had occasionally caught a distant look in his expression, one that spoke of a hidden sadness and you weren't game enough to ask, and you were sure even if you did, he wouldn't tell you.

Not yet anyway.

But now, with night approaching, this was all far from your mind. You paced your own little hobbit hole already in your dress, flowers in your hair, the rhythm of your feet just adding to your nerves.

You wanted to go now but you also wanted to wait, knowing that arriving late would get you noticed more.

A knock on the door made the decision for you.

You practically skipped over to the door, throwing it open.

Bilbo stood there, a grin on his face as he saw your excitement. "Well, don't you look dashing."

You fold your arms. "Very funny. I take it you are here to walk me to the festival."

He bows. "At your service."

You giggle, unable to help yourself. "Well my friend, I would be honoured."

He holds out his arm. "My lady."

You take it, closing your door behind you. You both happily chat as you walk towards the lights and laughter. You had a feeling that tonight was going to be a good night.

If there was one thing that hobbits liked more than their drink, it was food, and the Spring Festival was one of the many times that food flowed very freely, many hobbits never moving from the tables. The dance area was also full, which was where you and Bilbo had spent most of your time.

You were currently dancing alone, much to your own annoyance, and growing tired of not receiving the attention you wanted. You had danced with several hobbits, but they had all by now moved on, too caught up in drink and food.

Pouting slightly, you decided it was time for a drink of your own and moved over to where Bilbo was already filling a mug.

He smiles, passing it to you and grabbing another for himself. "Enjoying yourself?"
