You couldn't help but roll yours eyes at the vision you saw in the square. The blonde dwarf prince showing off again to a group of chattering, overbearing, smiling women.
He spun the knives expertly in his fingers, clearly enjoying the attention.
Hiking the basket straight on your hip, you rolled your eyes again and walked away. Nothing annoyed you more than a show off, especially when it was someone that had it all anyway.
You'd always enjoyed the simple things, such was the nature of this life anew in Erebor. You knew that the princes had a a right just to be happy after all they went through, as did the King, but you just wished that, especially Fili, wasn't so open about it.
The truth was, of course, that Fili was only out there in the square everyday so he could see you.
He was honestly hoping that you too would come over and join the crowd around him.
Because he had no idea how to approach you otherwise.
And yet his heart sank as he watched you walk away yet again.
Frustrated, he stopped his little show and moved on, much to the disappointment of those around him.
Kili was smirking at him as he watched from the street, Fili storming over.
"Why don't you just tell her?" He asked and Fili shot him a dangerous glare.
"Not all of us find it easy Kili." He said darkly.
Kili shrugs loosely. "I was on my death bed, everything seems easier then." His grin widens. "Maybe-"
"I've been there Kili, I have no intention of going back there anytime soon." It was true, many thought that the prince survive his wound from Azog and yet somehow he had pulled through, although not without consequence.
"Well, you are clearly going to have to try a different tact then." Kili laughed at his brother's expression of dismay.
"Whatever." Fili grumbled and started to walk away, Kili practically skipping after him.
"We could ask Uncle-"
"No."
"Dwalin?"
"No."
"Balin?"
"No Kili."
"Bofur?"
"Ha, he's likely to try and woo her himself."
"There's only so many names I can throw out Fili."
"Well then stop. I can figure this out for myself." Fili storms ahead.
Kili was still grinning. "Well then let me help."
"No!"
The next day, you were more than surprised to not see Fili in the square. It had become almost a daily routine, seeing him there and internally scalding him.
And yet he was not there.
You almost wondered what could've possibly happened before shaking your head, realising you didn't really care.
Continuing on your way, you followed your usual route to the bakery, the supplies for the next day tucked safely inside the basket on your hip.
You were only an apprentice it was true, but you knew that your cooking was going to be amazing someday and then you wouldn't have to this ridiculous task to look at that ridiculous prince.
