Nerves threatened to swallow you, making you subconsciously hold your stomach. Normally, you were composed, it was part of your nature, it helped you feel in control, but this, this had been unexpected.
You weren't sure what to tell Elrond.
You started to pace, your hands running through your hair, your stomach twisting in knots and making you want to be sick. This would be big news, not just for you and Elrond, but for Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn, and this is what had you panicking.
The door to your room opened, but you were so caught up in your panic that you didn't notice.
"Y/N?"
You jumped with a small squeal as Elrond's hand rested on your shoulder, his expression concerned.
"Elrond." You clutched your chest. "I did not hear you enter."
"Are you alright?" He asked gently. "I don't think I've ever seen you look so stressed."
A nervous laugh bubbled up out of your mouth and you shook your head. "I'm fine, I don't know what you are talking about."
"Y/N..." He knew you better than that. "What is wrong?"
You went and sat on the bed, your hands wringing together as you gnawed your lip. "I don't know how to tell you."
He joins you, his hand settling over yours to still them. "Tell me what?"
You stared at your hands. If you couldn't tell him, then what were you going to do?
Drawing in a deep breath, you looked at him. "I...I'm pregnant Elrond."
Elrond looked at you, his head tilted a little. "Truly?"
You nodded slowly. "I know we haven't talked about it, and I realise this may change things between you and the Lady Galadriel-"
"Why would it change things?" He asked softly. "Y/N...you are my wife, I never thought that I would find such happiness again. Lady Galadriel has been very understanding of all this, she wishes us all the best, and I'm sure that she will be very happy."
"Are...are you happy?"
Elrond smiled at you and he entwined his hand with yours. "Y/N, we are going to be parents."
His excitement buzzed through you and for the first time since you knew, you grinned widely and threw your arms around him, laughter soon filling the room.
It certainly didn't help when you had to tell Lady Galadriel though.
You couldn't believe when Elrond told you that she was coming to Rivendell, and had almost begged him to hide you away.
"Y/N, you are being foolish."
"Am I? This will be taking your attention away from your other children, her grandchildren-"
"They are fully grown Y/N-"
"And the question about whether I will be a good mother, don't even get me started-"
"You will make an excellent mother-"
"Then, of course, there's the talk of our people leaving, of them moving onto the shores-"
"Y/N." Elrond's voice was calm, patient, but loud enough to get your attention. "Please. Everything will be perfectly fine. Galadriel will be happy about the news. You will make an excellent mother to our child, just as I'm sure Arwen, Elladan and Elrohir will be-" He paused for a moment. "Mostly good influences in their younger sibling. As for our people, we will approach that when the time comes, but that is not now nor the near future."
You blinked at him, furiously fighting away the tears of worry that were plaguing you.
Elrond sighed softly. "Come here my love."
Being wrapped in his arms helped a little, but it wasn't until he began to sing in a low voice that you finally calmed.
"Y/N, stop fidgeting."
"I cannot help it."
"You have met my grandmother before-"
"Yes, but not like this."
Arwen took your hands gently in hers, her gaze soft and kind. "You are just as beautiful, kind, smart and courageous as my mother. That is why father loves you, and why I love you, and Elladan and Elrohir. You have nothing to fear. You are a part of our lives too now."
You drew in a shaky breath and gave a small smile in return. "Thank you Arwen. Those words mean a lot to me."
Arwen kisses your forehead softly. "I am glad, I would not want this ruined for you. Now, stop fidgeting with your dress."
While still feeling the nerves bubbling away in your stomach, you couldn't help but feel a sense of calm at Arwen's words, the feeling of control returning.
By Elrond's side, you bowed in greeting to Galadriel and Celeborn, allowing him to take the lead, few words being spoken by you.
However, dinner became a different story.
Seated next to Galadriel, you could feel your confidence waning, no matter how many reassuring smiles Arwen gave you, or the comforting hand that Elrond would rest on your knee once in a while.
No, your heart was racing and you were starting to fidget with your dress again.
The announcement was to be made soon.
"Are you well Y/N?" Galadriel spoke softly to you, making you jump.
"Oh, yes, quite." Was all you could manage, quickly dragging your gaze away from hers.
You were glad when Elrond stood up, moving the attention off you.
"Now, there is more to this gathering than just a meeting amongst friends." Elrond spoke to now quiet room and you drew in silent deep breathes, wishing for your stomach to ease. "This is also a celebration, for Y/N and I-" Your stomach did a flip. "-have some very special news that we would like to share with you all."
You were meant to get up and take his hand, join in the announcement. Instead, you found yourself turning, your stomach doing a final flip and nausea fully gripped you, and emptying the contents of your stomach onto the floor.
You missed Elrond's resigned look as he held back a sigh. "We are pregnant."
Whatever happened next was lost on you, gentle hands moving your hair before gripping your shoulders gently and guiding you from the room. You didn't focus on who it was, just glad to be free of your embarrassment.
It wasn't until you were placed on a chair in your room, a cool cloth being wiped over your face, that you realised who was tending you.
"M-y lady!" You stammered out, trying to move free from her grasp.
"Hush," She said gently. "You need to take it easy. Bearing a child is no simple task."
You stammered still, watching her as she dampened the cloth again before returning to your face.
"You are feverish, no doubt from all the excitement." She seemed unperturbed by your gaze. "Elrond should know better, but then, he was like that with Celebrian, just too excited over having a child."
It wasn't until you winced that Galadriel's gaze turned fully on you, her blue eyes seeing all.
Despite your nerves though, she smiled. "Ah, a worrier too, something else you share with my daughter. You have nothing to fret from me my dear, I am happy that he is happy again." She brushes your hair back gently, ease washing over you. "This child is a gift Y/N, any mother will tell you that." Her smile widens. "I promise, you have all my support and all my heart. This child is equally my grandchild, blood or not."
A sob broke free before you stop it, the stress leaving your shoulders as the tears fell, but Galadriel said no more, simply sitting next to you, letting you rest your head on her shoulder, stroking your hair, until the tears were no more.
