It was clear that the return from Gondor weighed heavily on Eomer as he rode into the city. Yet, he still graced you with a smile, one that lit up his face and took away his troubles, hurriedly joining you with a loving kiss and a gentle hand resting over your swollen stomach.
"I am sorry I was gone so long." He spoke softly to you. "But rest assured, no matter what happens, I will be here when he is born."
"And after to, I hope." You giggle, causing his smile widen.
"It'll take a lot more than a baby to get rid of me." He growled playfully.
"Damn," You laughed. "And here I was hoping."
He kisses you again before he leads you inside and calls for a hot meal.
"The road was much too cold for my liking." He grumbles, groaning slightly as he sinks into his chair.
"Sounds more like you need a hot bath than hot food." You said warmly, joining him.
"Both sound good." He smiled at you. "How are you feeling Y/N?"
You shrug. "Fine. He has been quiet, so not much trouble."
Eomer watches you for a moment before sliding your chair closer, his arm wrapping around your waist as he kisses your temple. "It feels like a long time since I have told you I loved you."
You smile. "Too long I think, although the letters everyday were a good reminder."
He lightly kisses you. "I love you. With all my heart."
"And I love you." You gently touch your nose against his. "Only a few more days and you will have another to love too."
"I'm sure I can manage." He laughs softly. "No doubt, if anything like Eowyn and I, he will be a handful."
"If it is even a boy." You jest.
"Oh, I know it is. I can feel it." He laughs with you before becoming distracted by the hot food that was placed in front of you.
As you ate, he caught you up on what had happened in his time at Gondor and you caught him up on what had been happening your kingdom, which had been little since the end of the war and the few years of chaos were over. Conversation had always come easily to the two of you, one of the many reasons you had fallen in love, and it was never a surprise to see one of you laughing at the other.
You'd been courting before the war, which became a danger to you when Eomer was sent away, especially as you weren't one to sit still, actually being thrown in prison temporarily for speaking out against the king and Grima Wormtongue.
Luckily, a saving grace came quickly.
Eomer had been furious when he had found out later, promising to hunt down Grima and put an end to his existence, but as it turned out, he didn't get the chance, but Grima did get what he deserved.
You found Eomer later half dozing in a hot bath, you come up behind him and gently touch his shoulders to let him know you are there.
He looks back at you with a smile. "Have I been in here too long?"
"No, I just thought you could use some company." You said softly and then brushed his hair. "And a hand washing this tangled mess."
He laughs. "Well, if you insist dear."
You begin by brushing it, earning an appreciative noise from Eomer, before pouring water over it slowly. You start to wash it, massaging his scalp.
"Hmm, I hope you never lose your touch." He mumbles.
"Oh? After all those battles I cleaned you up after? I don't think so." You then playfully throw his hair over his face, causing him to jump and start spluttering as you laugh, quickly stepping back from the bath as he turns.
"That wasn't very fair." He said, amusement glinting in his gaze. "I can't do anything in return."
"I have to take advantage while I can." You laugh.
Eomer climbed from the bath. "Well, don't expect it to be too much of one."
You squeal as he suddenly dashes forward and scoops you up and carries you over to the bath. "Don't you dare Eomer!"
But Eomer grins widely and steps back into the bath, sitting down with you still in his arms, your dress spilling out around you as you squirm in his arms, caught between giggling and groaning.
"Now I'm much more comfortable." He was still grinning and you hit him playfully.
"This isn't fair." You giggle, your arms wrapped around his neck.
He nuzzles you. "Neither is blinding me with my own hair when I'm trusting you with it."
"But you are not the pregnant one."
"No, instead I am the road weary one who wants nothing more than to relax." He sighs dramatically, making you stifle giggles. "And relaxing with my wife seemed like such a nice idea."
"Seemed?"
He failed at hiding the grin. "Until she dunked my hair on me."
"Well then," You shift in his arms and reach back to start to untie your dress. "I guess I'll have to make up for it then."
Eomer's hands quickly ease yours out of the way and start to carefully taking over where you had left off, his fingers slowly then dragging over your skin. His lips soon follow his fingers and you give a soft sigh.
It was a little awkward, but soon your dress was simply a wet mess on the floor and you leaned back against Eomer, your head resting on his shoulder as his fingers trace over your stomach.
"You know, I had never dreamed of this when I started courting you." He said softly. "Certainly getting you alone to myself, but never as King and Queen, as rulers of Rohan. How times changed so quickly."
You glance back and gently brush his cheek. "You wish to name him Theoden."
He gives a soft smile and takes your hand to kiss it. "Perhaps, but I suppose we will have to see what is born first. I can think of no higher honour for him."
Your hand joins his over your stomach. "You know, I think I finally worked out why I could never tell."
"Oh?"
You grin. "I think there is two."
"Two?"
"Yes. A boy and a girl."
Eomer laughs softly and kisses your head. "Well then, what do we say to Theoden and Elowyn?"
"How did you know I wanted to name her Elowyn?"
"Because I know you too well love." He kisses you again. "And I want nothing more than for you to be happy."
"I am always happy when you are here." You tilt your head back so you can share a brief but loving kiss. "So I am very happy with Theoden and Elowyn."
Several days later, you were proven very right when two healthy children were born, Eomer a nervous and excited mess. Theoden and Elowyn became the first prince and princess of Rohan, their parents having never been seen happier as they held them together and knowing that their kingdom was in safe hands.
