When Mallory Shepherd woke up in the morning, there was a sick feeling settled in her stomach. It felt different from the morning sickness that had been running her ragged, but the difference was something that she couldn't quite explain.
The brain is the human body's most mysterious organ.
Without being able to think about the feeling much, Mallory rushed to the bathroom, losing any contents that were left in her stomach. She could hear her husband sit up in the bed to follow after her.
"Jesus, I thought we'd be past this by now," Alex Karev let out a sigh as he joined her. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Mallory managed to answer once she stopped. "I think I'm fine."
It learns, it changes, it adapts...
It tells us what we see, what we hear.
"I'm starting to doubt that," Alex admitted as she stood back up to wipe her mouth. "Do you want me to see if you could come in late today? I'm sure that I could talk to Webber and he could pull some strings."
"No, no strings need to be pulled," Mallory insisted with a nod. "I just need to pull myself together."
Alex let out a sigh before he repeated his question. "Are you sure that you feel alright?"
"I promise. I think it's just a bad feeling," Mallory explained with a simple shrug of her shoulders. "Is it someone's birthday or something? Am I forgetting anything?"
It lets us feel love.
I think it holds our soul...
"I don't think so," Alex answered, even though he sounded unsure. "It's the middle of the night. My brain isn't exactly working on full blast."
"You're right," Mallory nodded slowly. "We should just go back to sleep—"
They were interrupted by the sound of the phone ringing, which made both of their brows furrow as it was only 4 in the morning. Mallory went to answer it and was surprised to see Meredith Grey's caller ID on the phone.
"Mer, we've been home for less than five hours," Alex was the one to speak first. "What could you possibly want?"
"Is Mallory awake?" Meredith was quick to question. "Where's Mallory?"
