The next day, Mallory Shepherd was back in the same conference room for another meeting with Andrew Perkins. And just as she did the day prior, she kept a guarded stance, refusing to let the therapist in on her personal issues.
They say lightning never strikes twice.
But that's a myth.
It doesn't happen often...
Lightning usually gets it right the first time.
For the duration of her meeting, Mallory kept her eyes narrowed at the therapist, opting for the path of silence. It didn't take him long to notice that she was choosing not to speak, which only made him tap his pen.
"You know, I've never met a soul who said bottling up their feelings felt good," Andrew Perkins stated with a simple shrug. "Don't you want to get it off your chest?"
"Doctor Perkins, my sister is a psychiatrist," Mallory bluntly replied. "She used to lock me in a room with her until I started to share my feelings. And you haven't met Kathleen, she knows how to push buttons."
"Oh—"
"So," Mallory smiled as she concluded. "If you want to trick me into talking, you're gonna have to up your game."
When you're hit with 30,000 amperes of electricity, you feel it.
The therapist nodded slowly before he presented her with what he wanted. "Well, all I want to talk about is what happened that day."
"I don't," Mallory was quick to counter. "I'd rather talk about anything else. I have lots of interesting details from my past—"
"You know, Mallory, only you know what happened that day," Perkins stressed to her. "You were confronted by the shooter, and you were shot. Nothing's gonna change unless you start talking about it."
"I don't think I need anything to change," Mallory continued to insist. "I'm coping fine on my own—"
It can make you forget who you are...
Before she had a chance to say anything else, Perkins stopped her with a raised brow. "What about the others who were affected by what happened to you? I mean, Jackson Avery and Louis Carmichael were put into a scary situation."
