Over the next couple of weeks, the ongoing argument of Mallory not knowing how to take it easy when her body was under stress returned. And just as it had happened before, Alex Karev and Mallory Shepherd started to bicker over the subject.
When she was pregnant with Carter, Alex didn't push hard regarding the subject until the end of her pregnancy. Especially since he wasn't experienced and wasn't sure of what her limits were when it came to being a surgeon while pregnant.
Renegades.
Rule breakers.
Gangsters with scalpels.
However, with the second pregnancy, Alex had spent most of his time in peds, which had given him more insight into OB. And the worse his wife's nausea got, the more persistent he was that she should take it easy.
The night before their shift, Mallory couldn't keep anything that she ate down in her stomach. It wasn't long after Alex took the dinner off the stove that Mallory sprinted off to the bathroom once again.
"Are you sure that you're okay?" Alex questioned as he followed after her to hold back her hair. "Because at this point, I don't know if you're keeping down liquids. And you're going to get dehydrated—"
"I'm fine," Mallory insisted the second she stopped throwing up. "It's just the smell of the chicken."

With furrowed brows, Alex went to object. "But you like chicken."
"Apparently, our baby does not," Mallory retorted as she fully sat down on the floor. "You better make sure that Carter gets his dinner. We're gonna be doing bedtime soon."
Immediately, Alex raised a brow as he countered. "He'll be fine for a second. I'm more worried about you."
"Alex—"
"I'm just saying, Mal, you shouldn't be pushing yourself past your limits," Alex persisted with his worries. "Your body is telling you your limit. Maybe you should take tomorrow off, relax—"
"No, absolutely not," Mallory shut down the idea before he could even fully suggest it. "I've done this before. I know what I'm doing. I do not need to call into work."
"That's fair and all. But I was there last time, too," Alex was quick to remind her as he shook his head. "You weren't sick like this when you were pregnant with Carter. Maybe it has something to do with your workload—"
