The morning of their next shift, the surgeons of Seattle Grace Mercy West met up at one of the parks within the city. While the rest of the surgeons practiced baseball on the field, Mallory Shepherd was with Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey, laying on the grass as they stared up at the clouds in the sky.
Surgeons can't be lazy...
The risks are too great.
As she pointed up at the sky, Meredith said. "That one looks like an islet cell."
"An islet cell?" Mallory replied, not seeming to see what her sister-in-law did. "You can't get any more creative than a cell?"
Cristina's brows furrowed as she questioned. "Which one?"
"That one," Meredith tried to get her best friend to see which one she was talking about, letting her surgical creativity flow. "It's all puffy and insulin-producing."
With a raised brow, Cristina countered. "It looks like a cloud."
"It looks like an islet cell," Meredith went to declare, but she stopped to pause. "Or maybe a buffalo."
"You know," Mallory nodded along. "I could see a buffalo."
The second we stop pushing ourselves, something terrible happens, something we never see coming...
All Cristina could do was shrug her shoulders as she admitted. "I have no imagination. Teddy sucked it all out of me."
"Let's not go there," Meredith countered with a shake of her head. "We're just gonna believe that everything's gonna be okay. We're keeping the faith."
"Hey," Mallory smiled in response. "I'm happy to see that my optimism is rubbing off on somebody."
"Yeah. Teddy did say that she had something great for me today," Cristina tried to be positive, even if she still sounded glum. "What are you two on?"
"I'm with Callie again on ortho," Mallory answered, which only made Cristina's brows furrow, expecting her to say plastics. "She practically begged me to be on this case, and I didn't have the heart to say no."
Meredith let out a chuckle as she answered. "Cabbage patch."
"OB still?" Cristina raised a brow as she insisted. "You gotta get out of those pink scrubs?"
"Why?" Meredith retorted, not seeming so sure about her best friend's advice. "Bailey's got me blackballed from every surgery. Besides, it's quiet, and I get to work on the trial stuff."
