With the arrival of Charlotte Karev came the official decision for Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev to move their family out of the apartment and into a house that would have the proper space for their family that had grown.
There are distinct differences between male and female brains.
The morning before Alex's shift at the hospital, Lexie Grey, Jackson Avery, and April Kepner stopped by with Louis Carmichael, who was helping Mallory explore different house options that fit her wants and needs.
Female brains have a larger hippocampus...
Which usually makes them better at retention and memory.
At the kitchen table, Mallory and Lexie sat behind her computer while Alex, Jackson, and Louis stood behind them, with Carter on Louis's hip. Meanwhile, April was in the kitchen, getting her energy out by cleaning as she kept an eye on Charlotte, who was asleep in her bassinet.
"So, I want to make sure that we have enough room," Mallory stressed to her friends. "I mean, what if Callie needs to drop off Sofia for the night? Or something happens between Lexie and Mer and Lexie needs a place to crash?"
"I support that idea," Lexie nodded along. "Do I get my own bedroom?"
"Hey, if she gets her own bedroom," Louis raised his hand as he added. "I want my own bedroom."
"You have an apartment building, plus more, plus houses," Lexie bluntly reminded him. "You don't need a room."
Male brains have a bigger parietal cortex...
All Alex could do was shrug his shoulders as he declared. "All I want is a backyard. That's the only downfall to living in an apartment."
"And if we have a backyard, we can set up that play set that Carter got for his birthday," Mallory agreed with his idea before she thought of more things that she could possibly want. "And I want a basement."
Alex's brows furrowed as he repeated. "A basement?"
"Yeah. Where else are we supposed to hide when a storm comes our way?" Mallory pointed out as if it were glaringly obvious. "I'm not leaving that up to the chance of the universe, not with my luck."
